im a smart prepaid user. rates are:

P0.50/kb using gprs
P15.00 when u download ringtones, themes.. etc using wap (wap na nga eh ano may bayad pa? hmmp)
P2.50 when u enter the smart wap site (ewan ko lang how much they will charge when you download anything nde ko kasi alam kung sa P0.50/kb ba o sa P15.00)
P1.00 when u dial 1515 na dating free for balance inquiry
texting 214 with SMS na ?1515 yan daw ang free for balance inquiry as of May 1 pero ngayon they are charging me P2.50 for this (dahil ba nde pa May 1?)

i tought im smart kc naka smart ako, parang i wanted to be smarter na (by changing to globe)

@angelic honey :-D got your pm. Problem is based on recent events, don't know if globe is going the same route. Oh well, guess we,ll just have to accept that nothing is free in this world.

@angelic
For prepaid and postpaid smart gprs users:it is .25c/kb downloaded not .50c anymore.This was implemented I think couple of weeks before when they started to offer streaming video/video messaging.

@peeps
A friend of mine told me:(it may be quite true or not)
One of the reason why Smart is charging all aspects of our cellular lifestyle is internal.You see they are somewhat losing a lot of atik,datung,moolah in their postpaid accounts since many(hundred of thousands) had been delinquent in paying(take note: average 3 months of mid to high end plans).I think many just went for the free units without minding what was in the contract incase of delinquent payments.Just a sample computation:176,000 post paid accounts as of 2002.Let us say,50% of it is delinquent for the past 3 months(meaning havent settled their cumulative outstanding balance for the past 3 months),
176,000 x 50% = 88,000 x 1995(average plan to avail of a high end unit) = 175,560,000 x 3 months = 526,680,000 philippine pesos estimated profit loss.Take note that 176,000/9 million subscribers= 1.95% share only of post paid accounts but in terms of ARPU (Average revenue per unit), it is quite a huge loss.If you are the finance head, I am sure you really would think of other means of offsetting such loss(of course at the expense of the other 98.5% which is prepaid).
My 2 centavos contribution!

saw that poster na "God?" kala ko pa namang bagong PC game. nwey, i',m a globe user but i think it kinda "sucks" yang mga pinaggagawa ng Smart.... but then, i think they still have the majority of cellular subscribers (pre & post) here in the Philippines... shall we mount an anti-Smart campaign?

Also to add.Smart and Nokia had a memorandum of agreement to implement EDGE technology after the second quarter of this year(Nokia press release-April 14,2003).Guys,expect the 6650 and 6220 to arrive here.EDGE.....another technology to be financed by smart prepaid and postpaid users.
I do hope Sony Ericsson would have an EDGE unit to counter these two just in case it gets implemented.
What's next??? Full 3G/UMTS.

@angelic Bottom line:smart is losing big sa post paid nila kahit maliit lang ang subscribers nito.To offset or control the bleeding,they have to squeeze some more from the majority w/c is the prepaid. O hayan ndi kana hilo! Yes they have plans with free units-the same with globe. The good thing with globe is kahit papano libre pa ang gprs even though not that stable all the time.A consolation!

We canno do anything about it. except one! business is all about figures people . its all about MONEEEEY! im a globe an smart subscriber. dont u think globe is not overcharging us? or robbing us? get real people!o you know whats the meaning of profit- politically? if you want your grievances to be heared, send a formall, black and white complain to smart and ask your lawyer to file a lawsuit against smart and walk from morayta to mendiola bridge to denounce/condemn this issue.LETS WALK D TALK :-l

True true true.It is all about profits! However,at least a good thing with cellular technology here in our country thru smart and globe,we are not behind:latest handsets,system(EDGE coming soon),64kb sims ,video streaming,mms and the likes.All of it comes with a price.We all have to pay one way or another. On another pt.,if globe charges .50c/kb downloaded(tru APN www.globe),im very sure all d PH threads here will not be that loaded and we will also have the same angst just like with Smart in general.

@kap no need to sound hostile. There's nothing wrong with people airing their grievances in a public forum, maybe someone from smart is watching. Lawsuit against a company as large as smart? That would take ages, not to mention megabucks. Peace man;-)
