I thought the Nikon D40 had reached end of product life cycle by now. Replaced by the D40x.
When I first bought my DSLR, I went to the store and held the candidates in my hand before I chose one. The ergonomics was very important to me. This was before the four-thirds mount (Olympus) and Sony was announced. In reality the choice was between Nikon and Canon. On paper, they offered the same features for the same price.
You should also think about future lens upgrad. That day will come. In the high-end range, Nikons Nikkor lenese are (or were) a little more expensive, but also a little better than Canons. Canon has a bigger range of lenses.

does somebody know whats the optical zoom equivalent of the olympus 42-150mm kit?Or a site were it say's the optical equivalent ot this kits?

I guess you mean the Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6?
The zoom range is 3.75 if that was what you were after. 40 * 3.75 = 150. More zoom coverage means lousier lens quality. The best lenses does not have any zoom at all.

You can get very good quality zoom lenses that are much better than the cheap telephoto's. For example you can get an $8000 zoom for the four thirds mount, this is an excellent zoom lens as good as the entry level telphoto lens. However, of course the high end telephoto is better than the high end zoom. So in a particular price class (entry level, enthusiast or pro), the telephoto will always have better quality than the zoom.
btw luci'spower, for the Olympus four thirds mount, the lens equivalency is roughly twice that of a 35mm camera - so the 150mm lens (or zoom factor) on a four thirds lens will give the same magnification as a 300mm lens on a film based SLR.

does the olympus sensor size matter because it's 2,43 cm2 and others are all somwere at 3,70 cm2?

Not really generally speaking but where it does make a difference is in high iso - larger DSLR sensors are generally better performers at high iso. At iso 100-400 though this sensor is just as good as other DSLR's. 800 is *okay* but 1600 is quite grainy.
But when I say larger sensor's high iso's are better it's marginal. This DSLR is still way better than your prosumer and super-zoom compacts.
Really I would say the four thirds format is comparable to APS-C pretty much, but against the full frame sensors well, they the difference is obvious.

Well if you guys need any lenses for it let me know as my A200 broke and i can't get it repaired so the lenses are up for grabs. Mint condition 18-35mm and 75-300mm genuine sony.
