Hi all,
Whilst i can appreciate and understand why so many of you love your P1's even with all the modding you can do just how do you feel about the lack of HSDPA late 2008? Does being restricted to just 384kbps Data speeds whilst most are accessing speeds well over 1mbps not frustrate you at all?
Even i think a P1 with a faster processor and HSDPA would sell well even now if available just how or why SE doesn't really is beyond me. Same goes for a P9xx with the above added would still attract those original and loyal UIQ users that were attracted to what still is a very unique and much wanted style of device. I don't like the X1 as really don't like or get on with WM but an UIQ version or the power seen in the X1 in a P series would of surely been a big hit IMHO.

We all dream of a p1 with hardware update but sadly thats not gonna happen at short or medium term. We have to enjoy what we got.

Sony Ericsson has only itself to blame for this mess. Pretty nice excuse given by SE " didn't attract the operator, manufacturer or consumer interest" yeah right! If they had got the hardware and the firmware right in the first place, there definetely would have been sufficient 'interest'.
And if they actually don't go on with it, the least they can do is give us worthy firmware upgrades which feature the unkept promises from SE like flash lite 3 etc. But I somehow feel SE is still disillusioned to think their entire current fan base will wait patiently till they are ready with their SF handset and no such benefits are required to be passed onto end users.
I still believe that SE still has what it takes....but others might not be as patient. I'll reserve my comments till their first SF handset is out.
@echo
the P1 is a great option...its certainly one of the best phones from SE.

5800 fans, check out these videos:

This phone -with that brand new hardware- definitely looks slower than my P1i in some tasks (which built to a 4yrs old cpu). Remember it's just an S60 with an interface stolen from one of their smallest competitor, but without the knowledge of that manufacturer, so it not just slower but seems buggy as well, it just looks disappointing to me, just like the other S60's.. anyways I'll try it out when it hits the market.

Calm down dude. It's Nokia 1st attempt at a mass marketed TS UI, it is expected and will be buggy.
I think it's a great and solid 1st effort by Nokia with their 1st TS UI. SE's UIQ is a lot older and is as slow, disappointing and now DEAD than the video you posted. So no reason to compare S60 Touch to your now obsolete UIQ.
Unlike UIQ, S60 Touch will get better, refined and more stable with every new iteration of it over the next few years. Nokia isn't known to 'give up' on their UI as easily as SE.
I liked UIQ on my P1i. I still have it and probably will keep it even though it has been replaced by the E71-2.

It's not dead because someone from Sony Ericsson declared to be dead. ;)
If motorola come out with a touchscreen UIQ 4 phone, I'll switch back.

HSDPA means absolutely nothing to me... The P1i is the perfect size to carry in my pocket - and does pretty much everything I need - I love the mods that hackers have been working so hard with, and the feel and quality of the device and touchscreen is superb.
So much packed into such a tiny device - it's almost a miracle
And... I have heard reports of people buying them for 90 off ebay - how much VFM can you ask for?
Have a nice day now... y'all

MOTOROLA? LOL! Ye whatever, you're on your own on that one, most of us will be enjoying S60 And S60 Touch with loads of applications currently available and upcoming: http://conversations.nokia.com/home/2008/10/s60-application.html as well as frequent updates that will actualy improve our devices, and devices that are actualy released on time.
If SE couldn't manage UIQ well i dont think Moto will do any better, their latest UIQ3 devices still only has 64mb RAM.

As your signature said, you already switched to S60, I hope you are pretty happy with that and your platform will improve a lot because Sony Ericsson dropped UIQ. ;)
Btw Z10 has a much better CPU than the SE smart phones, so lets see, maybe Motorola has some new ideas for Z11. Touchscreen and more ram could be enough to show something better than Nokia did with its iTube :)
