^^ It must vary then from what you're saying, my TZ3 uses a smaller area of the sensor for lower resolution frames, so they are proper 5mp or 3mp instead of the full 7.2.

most of them just resize the pic with there firmware, but if it does use less space of the sensor rather than resizing then it's fine to use the lower resoloutions. | |
