Is anyone noticing less space on the "C" drive with time?
..did it say anything about if it only was if two programs want to write to the same file - the database- files for example - when the pips libraries create new temp files on it's own, that sort of thing?

It says: "Program termination does not delete temp files."

One other thing, I noticed that installing Speed Boost prevents me from using my P990 as a modem when it's connected to my notebook via USB cable, my computer says the USB device has malfunctioned. This has happened on 2 computers so far. It was well in the beginning, but then the USB problem would start. But immediately after uninstallation, it worked fine again.

Possibly not. Here's the list of Known issues with the current versions:
o In pipe operations, select() fails to wait for the request which are cancelled (KErrCancel)
due to which the next call to popen3() panics with E32User:Base 46.
o On writing on the pipe more than 512 bytes of data, repeats the data (restarts from 1st
byte) after reading 512 bytes.
o When one thread reads from and another thread writes onto a named pipe, if size grows
bigger than 512 bytes, write hangs.
o Support for decimal point separator other than dot and decimal precision issues for more
than 5 positions in printf() API family.
o Program termination does not delete temp files.
o Backspace erases output from a previous print operation.
o Incorrect error path/code for wopen(), wcreat(),creat() and open().
o read() from stdin will read n-1 characters.
o getservbyname() returns NULL when passed (telnet, tcp) as parameters.
o Stdioserver does not optimize connection to the redirection server by only connecting on
first stdin/out op. This translates to stdio console window on program launch.
o Child processes launched by a popen3 do not inherit environment.
o Inability to create a socket or file in one thread when another thread is blocked in select.
o Panic occurs when closing a file opened in binary mode.
o unlink() panics when a relative path is specified.
o Files created with tmpfile() are not deleted on close().
o Hang with reading FIFO special file modified in a child process.
o Panic occurs when using system() to launch child processes.

..well, I wish we knew how many of those apply to UIQ. And whether this is really worse than what was there before

There is talk about new versions, so the future doesn't look too grim. Obviously this is stuff still under development so I wouldn't be installing these on my primary P990 but I'll keep watching for the new versions.

surely if you discover your C: drive's free space shrinking, it can be easily solved by searching "*.tmp" in xplore, and deleting what it finds... |

Yes, provided the files actually end with .tmp.
I don't know yet if it's related but I lost 1 MB of space on drive C which was regained after a reboot.

I would say that reinserting the battery could remove the temp files, if any occur. As Nipsen said, cannot be worse than it is

What about Mode's comment that he can't use the P990 as a modem? Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Could be another thing caused by slight differences in the chipsets/hardware revisions from phone to phone. Maybe even down to differing firmware revision? |

@AD: Could be, mine's labelled 07W32 (2007 week 32?) and is reflashed to GW1 with R9K009 firmware. I can definitly notice the speed increase in nearly everything: contact manager, calender etc. and what's even nicer is that Walkman3 now runs smoothly with animations turned on.
So far no problems/errors encountered, so me is really happy with this mod. |
