Well iv asked these questions on that forum but havnt got a reply yet so just wondering if you might know the answers?

Where do i Download the 1.1.1 ipsw. Make sure it ends in _Restore.ipsw from?

"Now go into Installer, then into 1.1.1 Tweaks, then select & install OctoPrep. This
is very important!! Without this, you wont be able to jailbreak 1.1.2 Once
done, proceed to the next step. (Btw, this was the hardest part of the procedure,
the rest is a piece of cake really )"

Where is Installer? is that on the iphone? and where is OctoPrep?

"Download Transmit (or another SFTP client)."
What is Transmit? Iv never heard of this

"Server: <-- Your iPhone IP Address."
How do i find out my iphones IP address?

Still not sure where i would download 1.1.1 from?

and now im also stuck on

Step 4 - Jailbreak 1.1.2:

1) Stick the iPhone in the dock. (if it isnt)
2) Make SURE iTunes is closed & not running.
3) Download the 1.1.2 Jailbreak (Click Here)
4) Load up terminal, then cd to your 1.1.2 jailbreak folder.
4) Type ./osx

What doea it mean by Load up terminal? then cd to your jailnreak?

OctoPrep will be in installer under tweaks, installer is the icon on the iphone which pops up after jailbreaking.

I'm not a mac user, but 'terminal' sounds like a command line interface on the mac. CD = change directory, ie navigate inside terminal to the right directory....'cd' is actually a MSDOS command btw.

I'd look up 'terminal' in your mac's help directory....

so, just so that I understand.... if I buy the iPhone from Apple (without an O2 contract) - take it home, put my current O2 sim in it - do I still have to activate it via iTunes??

Will iTunes still force me to activate it with a current O2 sim installed?

If so - what if I buy a 2nd hand iPhone that has already been activated via iTunes with an O2 contract, and then use my own O2 sim - surely that must work??

I'm relucatnt to unlock\jailbreak it as I'm currently with O2 and have heard that if iTunes updates my unlocked\jailbroken phone, it can still make it a brick.

Buying a 2nd one off ebay seems ideal if I can just pop my current O2 sim in and use it without any modifications...

Has anyone tried another O2 sim in the iPhone yet??

there a links on the hacko thread, u download the 1.1.1 files directly from the apple.com website.

if you dont want to mod an iphone to use any o2 sim you have to activate it by using a o2 iphone contract i.e £35 * 18 but you dont have a hassle of waiting for someone to crack the next firmware.

the only way to uses any o2 sim i.e contract or pay and go is to jailbreak it. still works but you wont beable to upgrade firmware until someone jail breaks.

if i didnt have 8 month left on my orange contract i would prob of just activated it using a iphone contract but thats not the case.

Here are the direct links to all the apple firmware files for the iPhone

DO NOT DECOMPRESS OR UNARCHIVE THE FILE, AND DO NOT LET YOUR BROWSER DO IT EITHER.

Version 1.1.1

http://appldnld.apple.com.edg[....]e1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw

Version 1.0.2

http://appldnld.apple.com.edg[....]one1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw

Cheers

David
