The W910 is not 's flagship model even if it is the newest/highest spec available atm. The W960 clearly holds that title.
Nothing in that review says to me that the W910 is seriously compromised in any way, so I think the Hammer is a bit OTT. So the camera is average... we know always does this to thier music phones, so get over it!
The reviewers summarising comments and the resulting negative tone appears to stem from his understanding that the phone sells for 500 Euro - clearly he has this wrong as several members here can attest. I'd hardly say the reviewer's reputation puts him above reproach - the translator's comments put paid to that!
I know nothing about the N81 so won't waste time comparing the two except to say that leaving Wifi out of high end and Cybershot phones is a mistake IMO. This is one area where Nokia have it all over

The Nokia N81 just does not compare to the W910i. Different types of phones.
I read the specs of the N81 liked the functionality so popped into a store to look at it. Its huge and heavy (140g!!) and the black plastic looks cheap and nasty. Its a brick of a phone.
Whereas the W910 is a sleek slim light weight phone.
Nokia N81 (8Gb) is S$910 and the W910 is S$640 now here in Singapore.
If you want a smart phone slider to compare to the W910i then it is probably the E65 which at S$475 is a really good deal. Its just the forums are full of angry Nokia users saying the E65 is a bug ridden piece of rubbish.
For me W910 is a great phone because of the looks and large screen. Although waiting for Darkkrypt's review to find out how good the media player play back is (frame rate, bitrate, full screen, skip forwards and backwards in video, etc) before buying.
My perfect phone does not exist. A slim slider with WiFi.

LOL ... What are we a bunch of purse carrying man-wussies?! So the N81 is 3mm longer and 5 mm thicker, OMG it's sooooo huuuuge!!! 140 - 86 = 54 grams. 54 extra grams is too much to carry some of you macho studs?! Some characters on this forum! ROFL!!!!! |

I shove my mobile phone in my jeans or suit pocket.

The N81 is 62% heavier than the W910. If you see them side by side then you will know what I mean.

If size and weight are not an issue for you then you are better of demonstrating your manliness by carrying a laptop. Same price but much more functions!!

The W910 price you quoted comes with a throwaway m2 card. If you factor in the 8Gb M2 card, the price of both phones are pretty close. And it is undeniable that N81 beat the crap out of W910 in functionalities.
Its just the forums are full of angry Nokia users saying the E65 is a bug ridden piece of rubbish.
What a load of rubbish. The E65 is rock solid. Many people I know who have this phone do not have any issues with it. And it is the best selling E-seriess.

E65. haha.

No arguments there. My point was about the form factor, and that the N81 and W910 were different phones. But I seem to be in the minority here. If looks, weight and size are no issues for you then of course the N81 is the better phone.

Jibes like this add zero to the discussion.

Looks (form factor) AND large screen. If it was just large screen that was my criteria I would go for a N95 8Gb.

Doesn't sound too rock solid. But if all these issues have been fixed as you say then I may look at this phone again.

I wonder how this thread would have turned out if SE was said to be the better one lol! Theres nothing unfair in that Review, the N81 is just better and thats that. And the N81 is BOTH a Music phone AND a Gameing phone. And take note that the N81 is NOT even the Flagship Music phone in Nokia. The flagship Nokia music phone is coming beginning of next year. N81 is just a High perfomance mid-end and is better than SE high-end Flagship Walkman. OUCH!
even if the ouput is W910 win, it still unfair comparison.
well, how about make a compare review about W910i Vs N95 8GBG??
that will be nice |

hi guys! nokia n81 8gb is reviewed by mobile review! check this http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-n81-en.shtml
mobile review says in their conclusion:
"This phone lacks charisma to become a bestseller with its design alone, and its feature pack is not as fantastic as they claim. On balance, it is an average solution, that cant make our mouths watering, or make us throw it back into the box it is somewhat between these two extremes."
yesterday i go to nokia center here in The Philippines, and i play with a nokia n81 8gb dummy... i studied the design side by side. it looks cheap! its too plastic! and the color combination is a turn off! it could be better if it is in black/red and whit/blue or black/light green combo! i am disappointed! and the price is so turn off! nokia center says the price is almost the same as the n95 8gb! between PhP35,000-Php40,000! too expensive! if that is the case better get n95 8gb or w910i! price wise! spec wise! n81 is nothing new! n-gage died 3 yrs ago! and they already tried to revive it on the 3230! remember? "serious finds fun"? did they succeed? definitely not! and for the 2nd time they attempt to revive it again, all i can say is, good luck nokia! hahaha! in gaming there is nothing revolutionary there! its just an application! what about the shake ctrl of w910i? it can also be used in gaming! and n81 doesnt have it! w910i is advanced compare to n81 in gaming controls! it just lacks a gaming application... and im sure SE's next step on gaming will totally kick n-gage back on its grave! hehehe...
i would like to share this one, yesterday as i said i visit a nokia center here in The Philippines, 2 ladies are attending the questions and query of the costumers, and a guy is on the table(maybe his the cashier) as i go around the shop i notice one of nokia lady, she pull on her pocket a cellphone, i take a look at it, on my surprise she uses a K750i! i am expecting that she uses their own product, but instead she uses SE's! The other lady also uses SE! Its the same in Alcatel booth in Boracay last summer, a beautiful and sexy lady is endorsing Alcatel phone, she convine me to try and experience using their product, according to her, "their product are of good quality and performance with exceptional music features!" after a few minutes while im playing with the Alcatel phone, her phone rang! again, on my surprise! she uses SE eventhough she endorses Alcatel! SE really rules the world! hahaha!

Dude, you can't carry few extra grams and now you're comparing phones to laptops?! Let's just stick to phones, don't want you to strain yourself carrying laptops and stuff, you know what I mean?!
Side by side they look about the same, the weight is the only difference!
Here's a few comparative shots for ya if you missed them earlier:
