When in main menu don't hit "call", just hit *, and it will go straight to your call list. Otherwise you have to press end first, then call.
I just tried my N70, and the Nokia "call" button DOES NOT work anywhere. It only works from standby. So it appears identical to the K850: you press the "end" button to go straight to standby, THEN press call to get your call list.
Which phone are you using anyway? Are recent Nokia's different to the N70?

Sorry - I'm currently using a WM6 device - HTC TyTN in the form of a AT&T 8525. On it I can hit the call button at any time and it takes me to the dialing screen. I guess I'll just have to adjust to this new method once I get my K850. |

WM6 is better in many ways to either SE or Nokia ui's.
For hardscreen phones I prefer SE UI (WM in hardscreen is useless imho), and WM for touchscreen. That said, I'm quite keen on looking closer at the W960!

hearing you on that one tervel.... Its the same on my n73, just hit the green call button and it'll take you to the recently used numbers then just hit green again to dial. I'm really going to miss that.
Also going to miss the number entry system when entering multiple recipients to text messages.
I'll get over it though, it'll just take some more getting used to. TBH, i'm more worried about remembering how it usually takes a few firmware releases before you can actually use the features on the phone...

I love how when you start typing a number it brings up a list of who it could be

customization? i prefer UIQ alot
usability? fine UIQ is not as friendly as Windows because windows is window and most PC users have Windows OS in their computers But what would be the UIQ interface if people uses Symbian OS in PC?

@razec, I like the style of UIQ UI, but tbh I find WM more tweakable and customisable. Also more software is available by a long shot than UIQ or even s60.
But like I said, I do quite like the W960, and imho SE has more stylish smartphones compared to many htc's. I am quite interested in the W960 - I'll be watching it's release very closely. It may become my next smartphone.

So you are saying that from anywhere within the menu, N73 will go to call list if you press [call]? I ask, because on my N70 this only works in standby screen. Within the menu or anywhere else you need to press [end] first to get to standby, then you can press [call]
On the K850 if you are in the menu you have to press [end][call][call]the same as N70. In standby screen, it's just [call][call]

That is one feature on WinMobile that I willl dearly miss - you can either start dialing a number and it'll show you who it could be, or start dialing the name (T9) and it'll give you a list of people it could be. |

its good, but its only half way there to compared to what windows mobile has been doing for years.
The K850 only seems to take the possible letters from the digits you press and compare with the start of the stored name, whereas WM will look for that sequence anywhere in the name.
This is good if, for example, you can remember part of the surname but not the forename
Still... its definitly a worthwhile improvement!

there is no "play" button as we all know (major bummer that), however there is a "resume" feature in the media centre menu (top of the list).
(looking at the user guide) It seems the process to pause playback when the media player is minimised is to unlock the handset (if locked) then press left softkey then centre softkey twice. 5 key presses!
To resume playback, unlock handset (if locked), then press left softkey, then centre twice.
What I can't tell from emulator or manual, is whether the "resume" option for the media player is available in the "running apps" of activity menu. If it is, the process would be:
Unlocke handset, press activity menu then centre key. Still rather cumbersome

I just checked on the phone and no, there is no resume available in running apps and nor can you assign it as a new shortcut in activity menu unfortunately

Thanks for that info, no surprise I guess. The play button removal is a real blow. That combined with the lack of a true centre key on the dpad.
Some other things I've wondered about the K850, can the keypad be locked by * [lock] when the music player is not minimised, and does camera on/off button work when the handset is locked (and is it one press or press and hold)?
EDIT: I just read on mobile-review that "If you have music playing in standby mode, then bringing up the Media section will automatically get you to the player. This is a sort of replacement for the music key for some devices, including the Sony Ericsson K850i."
Not much of a replacement but better than nothing. It's when the phone is locked though that you have the problem.
