Once he works his magic, you'll be surprised.

Great stuff! You're off to a flying start already. You should have it in no time at all at this rate.

Gandalf? Wish I was, big fan of LOTR/Tolkien!

Just looked at my Paypal/Ebay accounts, and have paid £1.80 Paypal fees, and £2.35 in listing/Final value fees off Ebay, which makes the total spent so far £14.15.

I've probably said this during previous experiments, but there is also a bit of a risk element to this. For example, I've just recieved a W810i that supposedly had a power button problem - power button's fine (battery was buggered), but the phone has a bit of moisture damage which means it won't read memory sticks and occasionally thinks a USB cable is connected so asks me if I want to go into file transfer mode! I paid £39 inc. postage, and will be lucky I guess to get it back. Added to that it has no battery cover, so I'd have to factor in getting one of them too!

Come to think about it it's a shame about the moisture damage, this phone would otherwise have made an ideal next step in the experiment!

Right, got my next phone, though I could have made a big error early on in the project!

Just bought a silver K800i with a broken screen but the problem is the phone is otherwise not tested since it's accident. I've just paid £37.59 for it, which only leaves £5 from the V3x sale for a replacement LCD, so I'll have to add to my total expenditure when I get the screen. It also comes as the phone only, though I have a spare battery I can put in it, I'll have to either shell out for a charger (though I have one of those spare lying about too!) or sell it as the phone only, which will affect it's value. The power button's also missing, though I'm not sure if that means the facia one or the one on the phone's mainboard.

Worst case scenario is that I put a new LCD in and the phone's dead, will try reflashing it if that's the case, and if still no joy will stick it back on Ebay and just hope I can get as much back as I can.

Best case scenario - I put a new screen in it and it fires up and works, and if that's the case I can probably double my money when I come to reselling the phone. Only time will tell!

Just bought a replacement LCD screen for £12.98, which went over what money I had left. I've paid an extra £6.16 for the screen making my total expenditure now £20.31.

I asked the seller about the power button, she said it's just the silver one on the facia which is good, I just hope the phone will power up with my battery!

Shame you couldn't wait! Just got back in, I have a shedload of OEM K800 bits here, including 2xscreen, 3xkeypad, and a whole generic box, with all accs/cds/instruction manuals!

Ah well, ~£12 is very cheap.......just hope the screen's good quality(non OEM ones are often nowhere near as bright/colourful as SE originals)

Damn my impatience! It was described as an 'original' one, but I have my doubts!

Do you have a silver power button amongst those bits at all? As one of those would be ideal!

Those N80s are currently going for just over £33, I'm keeping an eye on them as they sound good! Though of course I've not got my next phone in the experiment, though time will tell whether it was a good buy or a foolish one.

It's more likely a foolish one however if you are confident you can get it up and running after you have ex-changed the display the so be it

the N80's though you need these cos you can flog them over £200

make a bid Sammy at last min hope you win them

Oh no, DISASTER!

Got the K800i today, took it apart, put the new screen in, and it's not powering up. At all. No red flashing LEDs, not even a WSOD. Looks like the phone isn't getting power from the battery or something.

It looks like the seller had tried to fix it, there were two screws missing as well as the facia power button, and a mark where someone who obviously didn't have a clue what they were doing dug a screwdriver in to try to take the phone apart. Also, not sure if this came from it's fall or whether this is more incompetence by whomsoever tried to take the phone apart, but the camera microswitch is broken off and there's damage around the flash area.

I hate it when people aren't entirely honest in their listing, I strongly suspect this person tried to fix the phone, and either it was beyond fixing or they broke it further when attempting to take it apart. I was hoping this was a 'virgin' phone, i.e. a faulty one which someone had dropped, it broke and they stuck it on ebay - I tend to avoid the ones where someone has tried to repair the phone for this exact reason.

There seem to be very few useable parts on this phone for if I sell it for spares, it looks like I'll be making a loss on this when reselling, even with the new LCD included.
