the ball should be on SE's court.
I believe, RIM just license the software (libraries and API, perhaps SDK?) to the phone manufacturers and up to them to customize for individual models. Pretty much the same practise as M$ with windows mobile. |

BES is working fine with latest BB Connect release and R7- firmware. One of the pluses is that I am able to surf the net and receive corporate emails simulataneously. I no longer need to disconnect the Blackberry APN and then connect the internet APN to switch between applications. That was a feature that was absent in the software designed for P900/P910 handsets.
I am currently working to see if BIS works in tangent with BES. That went haywire after RIM passed off Internet account responsibilities to individidual service providers (i.e. T-Mo, etc). If anyone already has tested this please post. I'm not sure if I have to provision my handset for BIS as well or just push the internet account service books to the handset. SE's EMO was doing a great job at pushing (almost instantly) my internet emails to my phone, but it can't be installed if BB connect is already installed.

UPDATE: I can confirm that BES does work concurrently with BIS on P990 (Firmware R7A....) using latest BB Connect Software v3.37. I am also able to surf the net using my Home WiFi network while these services are running. This is great news because we have never been able to perform all three tasks (BES + BIS + NET) simultaneously with BB Connect + any Pxx series. I will be drafting another BB CONNECT DUMMY GUIDE with illustrations for these services hopefully before the end of the week. If anyone else has already taken efforts to do this or have suggestions to improve over the last one please provide feedback.

Hi
Atlast I got some chance to read through this thread. I got my P990 in United States this Monday. And the phone is awesome. Something which, I never experienced before. I am trying to connect to the Blackberry Internet Service and I have been searching for Blackberry Connect for the past couple of days spoiling my other works. I am not able to find one. Went to Sony Ericsson support. It sucks. Unlike their phone. I am seeing in this thread that few of you have already got it and make it work. Can you help me in getting this up and running by providing the link to the latest BB Connect? Your help is highly appreciated here.
Also I got another question here. It would be very helpful if someone can answer this.
How do I find the firmware of my P990?
When I logon to Sony Ericsson's website, it says that I should take the phone to the nearest service center to find the firmware. Please help.
Regards,
Suresh

I'm much the same as the fella above.
I need to get 3.37 BB connect working with a SE p990i.
Our company uses a enterprise blackberry server (BES) and the SIM i am trying to get this working on has previosuly worked on a 8700g BB and a p910i (so i dont think its the isps fault - but im not ruling it out)
Vodafone wont help me - "p990i isnt supported sir"
Sony Ericsson have very little support for the 990i - even the uk & us site have no support area for it (although i did find the downloads for it eventually on the SE site (using google to get to them).
I've managed to install the client fine... however, the apn disconnects the second it connects to the blackberry service.
the thing is.. i see that the client trys to use the "BES blackberry.net" internet account. However. on my old p910i..the bb client was happy using my "contract vodafone wap". i see no setting to change the account it wants to use which is a bugger. I've tried editing the "BES blackberry.net" settings to match the vodafone ones, to try to trick it into connecting to vodafone, but i get the same results.
The webbrowser connects to the web just fine (using the contract voda wap" account), it just seems to be this blackberry client having probs.
I'm happy to email anyone the 3.37 software along with the configuration tool if you can get back to me when you get it working!
email ajkett@rocketmail.com and i'll send it your way, but i really need some help with this thing, as the person im trying to set this up for is by Boss at work, who is increasingly getting frustrated with the new expensive phone that vodafone sold him (im in the IT dept btw).
I cant tell you the firmware im running as i no one seems to mention how to actually get that up on the 990i screen, but i can tell you that its the latest ver as of 20th spet 2006, as the sony update service says it doesnt need updating.
other things to add:
ive tried manually regestering my phone on the vodaphone mobile site as well.
Any help would be massivly appriciated.
cheers chaps.
Tony.

Quickly downloaded and installed the new client this morning. Logged in and changed the PIN/IMEI on my T-Mobile UK InstantEmail account and it's been working great for the past 12 hour. |

You're willing to email someone something that I posted on this site for everyone to utilize as long as they help you personally? You have to be kidding. While you're at it, you might as well take credit for my post too. I made sure to acknowledge that other members feedback aided me in gaining the knowledge I needed to work on providing something for everyone to benefit from. Maybe you were betting most members would be dumb enough to not notice the post I created so you can harbor this "top secret" software.
This is an open forum m8, you don't need to bribe anyone for help. You obviously need to curb this duchebag move in the future. Especially if you plan to bribe others with things provided by other members on this site. Use a pay forum for that.

Abosultely not. I wasnt trying to bribe anyone, all i was saying was that i'd send it to anyone that needs it (to download it off this site you need to register.... too email me they dont). Either way, all im doing is looking for helping hand and if suppling the software to everyone else helps, then i'll do that...that was all, no strings attached.
And much respect goes to you for uploading it in the first place, thank you, i meant to take no one's glory there.
as for an update... well, i've got somewhere today with our vodafone account manager who sold us the 990i... basically, they've tested the blackberry connect 3.6 software (3.6 was what i was told - not 3.36 although im having my doubts), but apprently there are still bugs in it (calander entries missing etc) so they are continuing "not" to support it. They said that RIM have version 4 of bb connect but they arent releasing it to vodafone yet, so in turn, i cant get a copy unfortunately.
I'm trying to get more details on "how they got it to work" and on what firmware version. Im expecting a return call shortly, which i will duely post here for others in my predicament (read post above).
I noticed as helpfull as you are, you still didnt answer the question on how to find out the firmware revision running on your p990i.
Anyhow, im still stuggling with this phone, and any suggestions would be much appriciated.... i think im on my 20th master reset about now

In flip closed mode press on the more button then scroll down to status and it will tell you the firmware version...your wanting the organiser number for the firmware revision.
Just to clarify the latest firmware revision is R7A on the p990i. |

Information on how to locate your firmware version is on the second page of the Guide that I posted actually. I don't care for the glory, I just want you to understand that this is an open share forum and hopefully we can keep that in mine when make requests.
Those versions of BB that you mentioned appear to be synomous to that used for non Pxxx series mobiles. I have a contact in RIM now and the feedback I personally got does not line up with the story they're communicating to you. I wonder if there is a misunderstanding there. But if you know otherwise please inform us.
