@Gabster

the battery bug is to do with battery calibration. You need to reduce the charge to 25/20% then charge the battery on the mains with the phone switched off. People have found that if you do this a few times the M600 'learns' how to read the charge more accurately.

if it was a calibrarion problem you'd think there would be the same problem with the battery indicator at the top of the screen wouldnt you?

for me it can be showing a full battery often after I have just finished typing or when its indicating half scale. also when it powers the phone off and I restart it can go all day without another warning

I do think there is more to the problem

@masseur,

not sure about the battery issue. But only some people seem to suffer from it. I've never had a warning even with battery power near 20%. A few users at my-symbian have seen the problem disappear after a battery 'reconditioning'.

Wow. What a difference this new firmware makes. This release has fixed just about every bug I had found with the previous R1B firmware.
Things I've noticed so far:

1. Device is fast in general use - web browser startup times quicker
2. Cute little animation of the shortcut icons at the bottom of the screen when switching the device on
3. Form fields and backgrounds in the web browser are now currently displayed (ie you get the full form field outline and background), and the background on the home page now shows correctly.
4. Proper SSL/TLS options in the mail client. Gmail now works although prompts for a certificate approval each time - guess I just need to download the appropriate certificate for it.
5. Task manager now appears to correctly show the amount of RAM used by applications
6. In the Calculator app, if using the Ambient theme the digits are now readable (they weren't before)
7. Now possible to select between 3G/2G modes.

I have updated to latest SW and now the battery problem is gone. I am very happy. I had it very often, now it has not apperd at all today. I mostly had it when I had no 3G coverage and bad 2G covarge.

Didn't have that many issues with the previous firmware, the new has however improved my device's bootup time. Still ony have aorund 15mb with contacts, speed dial and messages running (where is the rest of the 80mb????). The Task Manager is now showing the amount of memory taken up by running tasks. Still no way to shut off menu animations and no clock screen saver. Now let's see how it does in actual use.

The m600i does have 80mb of memory but only 64mb ram...Still UIQ3 seems really hungry!

@Gabster, really sad to hear about your situation. Did you buy in the EU? If so, you'll be okay once SE releases it in the UK as their warranty applies EU-wide. If like me you bought it from HK, then life may be a bit more difficult when you go to a SE service centre.

PS. I assume you've tried another PC just incase the problem is with the drivers (USB) on your normal PC

I found many bugs with the previous firmware. Phone was usable but not more. The firmware before that was unusable. Before i did this last upgrade i tried to make a fresh backup of the phone. But the backup allways failed with an unknown error in the phone and i had to do the upgrade anyway and lost like 4 hours of work configuring contacts, web bookmarks and email stuff.

Upgraded four hours ago. Just had my first crash with the new firmware. Had golf running and pressed the web-browser button. Out of memory error and kernel crash left the web-browser in some strange state and closed down all other apps. After shuting down web-browser manually all seems ok again. But the previous firmware did this quite often so i cannot say if this one is better yet. At least i could recover this time without rebooting the phone.

Yes, phone is much faster with the new firmware.

@Gabster, sorry to hear your woes.

I've just updated mine and first thing I notice is that they moved the power save settings into the backlight settings dialogue, as I suggested in the M600 thread well, it makes more sense

now to check out the rest (and re-enter all my settings)

So far so good. Like I said before I never got the bugs you guys complained of. I got a couple of low battery warnings, but it never shut down. Now it seems great, even better, really pleased!
