which headphones for walkman phones? |

i do have the hbh-ds970. they are great, but sometimes with the medium tips i find they hurt sometimes a little. The hpm-70 with medium tips fit perfectly and are comfy, but i think the ds970 just has a bigger actual tip (not the rubber caps, the actual headphone) so thats why its a little painful some times. and im guessing the hpm-70 are just the ex-71 or some other sony headphones but branded....
i dont think i like the sony ex-81, dont like the wrap around ear style. The bose ones i posted above earlier are looking more and more suitable for me....

not hard to replace. Bose are giving a free upgrade anyway..... and besides, by the time i order, they would have already upgraded them most likely with the new tips.... the current tips look like the etymotics though... ie, something i dont like.
edit: that offer is limited to usa and couple countries only. But again im sure they will start shipping world wide with the new tips. any one know what the new tips look like?

@Sammy Boy
The Koss Sparkplugs are great. They never fall out and they a long tube which drives the bass deep into your head. I love em, but then again I'm no true audiophile.
@Jedi-Master
Those cheap ebay connectors are crap for real but I've not had any luck finmding a quality adapter which is just a Fastport with a 2 inch cord to 3.5 without the mic. When I'm really desperate I'll use the included HM-70 or whatever it's called but the mic is terribly heavy and awkward. I hate it. If anything I pull off the earbuds and connect my Koss Sparkplugs and then wrap the excess cord around my phone like a dork. |

I think you are right there. For my money, the included headphones that come with HPM-70 are the same things as Sony's mid range MDR-EX71's, though I've never had the chance to do a back to back test. But for the cost of mdr-ex71's they are pretty much what you'd expect SE to market with the HPM-70/82. They are good quality, full range, decent bass response, in ear headphones that will show SE music phones in a good light without being over the top quality.
Hence my guess they used a basic middle of the market headset like the MDR-EX71 as the basis of the HPM-70. Though the MDRNX1, and the new Bluetooth headset DRBT20NX, have identical looking ear buds to the HPM-70 ear buds, I think these both followed the introduction of the SE HPM-70 and are probably borrowing their styling from the HPM-70's.
I'm more than happy with the headphones that come with the HPM-70

Based on sound quality, I would say the buds with the HPM-70 are more like Sony's MDR-EX51. The 71's have much better treble response. (The 81's are better still, and with tighter bass and better midrange, too.) The freebies with the HPM-70 are dull and muddy.
Again, if anyone knows of a set of in-ear headphones with a short cord (like Sony products ending in "SL"), let me know. I really want to use the V-Moda Vibes, but the extremely long cord is a big turn-off. playback is already a tangled mess, with the HPM-70 or HPM-82 + earbuds.

Hmm, okay, if that's the case I'd be interested in trying a pair of MDR-EX71's then. I'm still happy with the existing hpm70 headsets, and while it may be "dull and muddy" compared to 71's and 81's, it's still reasonable (it's all relative). One thing I'll say, if you buy $5-10 cheapies, you'll be letting yourself down. Any cheap headphones I've tried with the HPM-70 sound awful compared to the ones that come with.

Hi all,
Well Amazon have been good enough to deliver my Black Shure EC2'S and all i can say is WOW, i thought the Sony MDR-EX71SL's where good. But this is just a whole different ball game they are very light and comfortable and the sound is just so much better. The first thing i noticed was that the cable is much thicker than on the Sony's and does it make a difference although I'm sure that's not the only difference. Best upgrade i have made so far and IMO for £40 a bargain get a highly recommended from me anyway.
Marc

The Sennhieser CX-300 is a "sound" investment. I got one and am using it with my Sony Ericsson W880i, which I bought 2 weeks ago, and I truly have no complaints about it. |

I typed a freaking long post and IE just had to crash on me.
Anyway, what I wanted to say is give this thread a look:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=127939#post1729325
In that thread I recommended the Philips SHE9500
Also the Creative EP630 is a good buy.
These two are good canalphones and produce nice tight bass. They are for bass-heads.
Anyway, I realized how crap the phones were once I got a good pair of headphones.
I've now dumped the and went back to my Creative MuVo2 and I'm using it with the awesome Audio Technica ATH-ES7 headphones which I got just last week.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the source is just as important as the headphones, so don't waste your money on Shure or Etymotic when all you're gonna do is just play it from your phone. The Philips SHE9500 or Creative EP630 is good enough. If you're not a bass-head get the EP635.
If you're gonna get a Shure/Ety/Audio Technica/Sennheiser, then get a good mp3 player like Creative and you'll be blown away. The phones just don't cut it.
Just my 2 cents.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. I Nokia N95 8GB and N82 |

Maybe, yet I notice a definite imrpovement when using my sennheiser's compared to my HPM-70 ear buds, so I think the walkman sound quality is atleast good enough to reveal differences between high end and mid range headphones.
