@Janet, since your such a white girl wannabe, your also entitled to beotch slap that woman, just like any good white trash ho' would do! You are right tho' there will always be those who fear the unknown, which is really all prejudice is when it comes down to it.

@luke, the bulk of the hippy era was in the 60's but I grew up in the 70's with my Mom, BF and sisters living as hippies, but it was still considered a bit of a strange lifestyle by most folk.

I see what you mean about the bands. I've never really followed footy that much, but I can see where you are coming from now. Perhaps it could be something that could work in all fads, such as a colour or symbol, rather than an object?

Max, i Wish i could do that but my parents always teached me to have respect for elders... I know as one of the best what racism is. Grew up in a white area, went to white schools, and till i was 17 they always bullied me at school Because i was Indian. But when i was 17 i trashed 3guys who want to hit me, and after that they saw that i was just like them.

Yeah it definitely a pity about those wrist-bands, it just shows you how shallow some people can be. All the rage one minute and yesterdays news the next.

Actually, I remember seeing someone who was wearing about 12 wrist-bands, all different colours and when asked he couldn't name even one of the causes - the stupid idiot.

@Janet - sorry to hear of your trouble but I bet you are a stronger person for it too after you put those lads straight.

The only racism I have to deal with nowadays is subtle racism...15 years ago it was a different story though but for all the hatred that has been directed my way I've learnt to forgive and move on.

Janet, Kick arse! Now I see why you held back on that other woman - you'd have killed her easy

I had to fight once myself (but I never kicked three guys arse's at once!!) and after that I got some respect. It's the only time I ever had to raise my fists against anyone. We became friends afterwards, and all the other kid's accepted me after that.

Not really the way a grown up should handle life though! Except maybe if you are in jail...

Had a few racist remarks aimed at me in the past.
Once while with a friend and his brother and cousin in forest gate, london a group of Asian kids came up to us and started going on to my friend about why he was hanging around with a white kid (his parents came from Bangladesh). My friend simple said because he is my friend (they were kind of lost for words?).

Another time I was talking to a black girl and jokingly she called me a white bastard so in return I called her a black bitch. She then went on one saying I can’t say that as it’s raciest. I asked why my remark was racist and not hers and she said “because blacks are the minority”. Wtf? So does that mean if I went to a heavily populated black country I could go around calling black people black this and black that and not be seen as raciest! That’s just double standards for ya!

Another thing that annoys me is people like Will Smith who are always making there colour an issue. How many times does he say shit like “I’m just a black man trying save the world” and that in his films. I can see your black, so why make an issue of it?

@joebmc: Yes, black people can be hypocrites...racism is racism.

About Will Smith...if you know where he came from you'd understand what he means...same thing as a kid from China who goes on to be a star in the NBA...he did it against all odds...

In America black people are still way down the social ladder even though there's been 40-odd years of civil rights reform...most of the poor are still black, most of the prison population are still black, drug abuse is most rampant in black communities, the homicide rate is significantly high in black communities compared to other races.

Now after all that negativity you expect Will Smith to say that he's man just trying to save the world. Hell no, he and many like him are beacons in a sea of negativity.

I understand what your saying, but when I see Will Smith or anyone in a film I don’t see them as a black, white, Asian (well I can see there race) guy/girl I see them as a actor/actress in a film. I don’t need to be reminded of his/her colour. That’s just creating an race issue (something that needs to be stamped out).

I'm sure the poor blacks in the getto's/hoods and that who look upto stars like Will can see that he is black without having to be remineded.

We are never going to get rid of racism, some say just accept it, some say ignore it, some say kick it out...there's no solution which is going to get rid of it, it's always going to be there, if anybody is racist to me, i don't care, let them waste there breathe.

@joebmc: OJ Simpson was famous, he hung out mostly with white people, married a blonde white woman, was prosecuted for her murder. It took the whole of white America being up his rectum for him to realise that he was black.

@jenbones: You're right racism will always be part of the human psyche...what can we do about it? Well I believe that people should be open about other people...in Europe it's especially difficult for immigrants because they come from mostly homogenous societies but reaching out to them should ease tensions.

@brix

Yeah, exactly what i mean, we can never WIPE OUT racism, so when it's used to us, just laugh and take no offense, racism isn't too bad, if it doesn't get scarily out of hand, threats, violence, repettitive verbal abuse etc, an odd comment i think you can just turn a blind eye to them.
