K750 > R1AA008 > Hissing sound when making phone calls |

I have noticed this "hissing' or what ever from the first day I have upgraded to RAA. My observations are following: it seems that when other party stops talking, earphone is switching off, when other party starts to talk, it's switching on again, but then you hear only end of first word; if other party is silent and there is any sound in the background of others party (TV, street noise etc) the the hissing starts which is because earphone is switching on and off. And only if you increase the sound level close to maximum, "hissing" disapears, as it seems earphone is not switching off anymore.
I have also noticed, that the severity of this problem depends on the phone model of other parties, with some people I hardly have hissing at all even at low volumes, while with others even at high volume the others parties voice is cutting off.
Anybody can confirm this? |

@doit
That is exactly the problem!
@matik
I and a few friends have recieved simillar notes from SE. I have also spoken to a technician, and I'm beginning to think that it isn't a firmware problem. Instead much tend to point to a hardware problem. It seems many phones have these strange sounds after the update to R1AA008 but I think it's there also in R1N035 but people don't hear it as much since the volume is lower in that firmware.
I think almost all K750/W800 had a hardware fault until end of last year. SE decided to change a component in those models not so long ago, and they had to admit it since the SAR value went from 0,69 to 0,99. But they refuse to talk about what was changed. My bet is that it has to do with this problem!
I don't think this problem will ever be resolved using firmware. A few of us will send their phones in for repair and SE will have them fixed by changing some hardware in them... some other people will live with it hoping for a firmware update to fix the problem and eventually they will buy a new phone and forget all about it... then there's a few others who don't know about the problem since they think it's a network problem... then there's a few who just don't care...
So, my bet is that this problem will never be fixed - SE even claims that there are no problems!

Most probably you are right, fundamental problem lies within hardware, but I think, that new FW have done this problem more visible. And this is because they increased the earspeakers volume beyond it's limits (listen to earspeaker test). Somebody here said before, that they downgraded to R1N and hissing gone. So, there is hope, that they will fix it someday. |

Do mind checking your box and see what SAR value is in the little note. Is it 0,69 or 0,99? All my K750 are week 42 and earlier with 0,69 and they have the hissing sound.
Great if you could check! |

The highest SAR value for this model tested by Sony Ericsson for use at the ear is 0.66 w/kg 910g).
Is this what you wanted mate?

Strange, you have a phone manufacured AFTER they updated the SAR value to 0,99 (see their web site) yet the manual in your box says 0,66 which is the old value... hmm!
I was thinking that the component that they have changed in the phone (which made the SAR value go to 0,99) had something to do with the fact that you don't have the hissing sound. I was wrong.
So the hissing seems to be random (unless your phone has a SAR value of 0,99 but they put an old manual in your box).
Damn, I love this phone but it's useless talking on it - it's a real shame! |

Hi,
I have had my K750i (R1L002 FW on O2 UK) since September last year and apart from the usual dust under the screen and sticky joystick it has be perfect, that is until last week when I noticed the ear speaker was crackling badly. It's like this no matter what the volume is set to and appears to be worse when it's me who's talking. Like a crackling / vibrating noise.... reminds me of when I used to blow cheap and nasty headphones. It's very annoying and I've been sending a lot more texts as a result.
I also tested the earphone in the service menu and it just sounds horrible, again with any volume. I think I'm going to see about returning it although I'm sure it wont be covered under warranty now as I've replaced the housing. I cant imagine it will cost much to fix and I'd even do it myself if I can find a replacement speaker for it.
Anyway, the fact that the problem has just appeared after months of it working as it should leads me to think it's more of a hardware problem than a firmware issue, for my phone at least. As I said before it sounds like a blown headphone and I cant see how that could happen out of the blue and be caused by firmware. The weird thing is, it's hardly like the max volume is so loud that it would blow a speaker!
Knew I should stuck with Nokia lol
Just my tuppence worth.

We will soon know if it is a hardware or a firmware problem. I sent in one of my K750 that has the annoying crackling/hissing sound.
If they can't fix it => firmware problem!
If they fix it (without releasing a new firmware) => hardware problem!
Let's wait and see. They promised me the phone will be back before the end of the month. I'll keep you posted here as soon as I know anything |

I wait for your reply in order to decide whether to send mine too or not. The porblem is that I went to local SE centre and it was a problem to make them hear the crackling sound, since it is audible only in silent surroundings. It is ennoying. Wait and see.

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm kind of expecting them to send me the phone back without any fix and with a note saying "nothing wrong". Anyway, I've decided to keep sending it in until they either fix it or replace it.
I'll post as soon as I get my K750 back and let you all know if they managed to fix it or not.
Funny thing is that I went by a store yesterday and asked if I could try out one of their K750 before bying it ... guess what ... it had the same problem as my phone! So even the latest available production is faulty! I just wonder how they're gonna fix a problem that they obviously aren't aware of. |

FYI mi SAR is 0.66 and I bought my phone, here in France, in December 2005.
Thank you for your information. We will keep in touch.
NOTE: When I went to SE center they made me try 2 W800 and both had the crackling noise (at low volume) even higher than mine, since they had R1A008 s/w.
Talk to you soon
