Download and follow the step-by-step instructions from here:
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/download.html
Make sure you download the new versions of the mencoder and mplayer binaries too.

Ok i just got an ipod video and have got quicktime pro i have loads of csi episodes in avi format i would like to convert.
When i open it up in quicktime it is just a white screen with no sound when i try in windows media player i get errors but it will open and play in vlc.
How do i get it to open in quicktime so i can convert it.
Doing my nut in.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need some divx & xvid codecs, I honestly don't know where to find them, but google should lead you in the right direction
I'll have a look myself and see if I find anything.

Hold down the Option key whilst restarting until the boot menu appears:

This is more a software advice question rather than a problem but i need to design a leaflet for college and publisher is not compatible on a mac so i was wondering if you can recommend something, anything apart from quarkxpress.
It is going to be A4 size and prefferably folding into 3 sections with print on both sides, can you recommend anything that can make the job easier when printing etc so it is nicely presented.
Cheers
