I might be wrong, but I believe the question the originator of this thread asked, was how to convert and export existing audio files from windows media player to his mobile phone, and not from CD's to pc.
iTunes will not convert existing audio files on the computer.
The most useful response to this question has to be the windows media player 10 option.
Like I said, I may be wrong.

iTunes can convert existing audio files on the computer, i've done it before.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I compared the quality of mp3 and aac.
It's about the same : same size (aac a little bit bigger than mp3), same quality.

I converted an mp3 to m4a using dbpoweramp.
m4a, mp4 codec Release 3.5
FAAC v1.24.1
Quality 90 (VBR)

And I used Faad (AAC decoder) v2.1 Beta in wimamp to decode.

I think it's better to convert your audio files to mp3.

You'll have to teach me to do that, cos I've tried it several times without success.

Add the song to your iTunes library, select it with right click and click on "Convert selection to AAC". Have fun

itunes is very simple, if you need any help just pm me.

if you add to library it also helps, and put them in a folder inside the itunes folder. also, ripping cds is soooooo easy. [addsig]

i've been using VLC to convert Mpeg into mp3 or save audio only from a video file and save it to any audio format. you can download it from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
