We the users are getting more technically demanding than what the manufacturers can supply. As such, almost everybody who buys a phone is reporting a bug.

Exactly. All OEM's need to lift their game.
But on the other hand, phones are much more reliable than computers for example. Even mac's. Ever noticed that Apple release DAILY automatic updates for their operating system? Some of these updates do cause bugs that didn't exist before the update. Likewise with windows.
The more complex phones get, the more like computers they become. Nokia will eventually be forced to offer an update services also. currently when your nokia phone needs a firmware update (and IT DOES happen, despite what some might say) you need to take it to the service centre and leave it there and have no phone for days or weeks.
How screwed up is that? |

@max_wedge, you have a very valid point and i have to agree with you. i guess we just have to understand that there cannot be a flawless product. never has been, never will be. nothing is perfect, simple as that.

And bugs and faults are necessary too because they push us to strive towards a better product. If at all there were none at all, it would lead to complacency on our part. These bugs and faults cause us to think, become technologically better.....so they do play some role afterall.

@BlueQuill, gotta agree with that too. in fact, what they don't say is that if these companies come out with THE perfect product, who's gonna buy whatever they're gonna come up with after that? and that, i dare say, is why we don't get any perfect products. =)

I beg to disagree. Bugs are okay for driving the phone manufacturer's R&D/technical development (or whatever) team. That's what they are paid to do.
And that's the reason why the phones should be bug-free BEFORE they hit the market.

No phone is perfect. Yet not all phones are buggy. You are wrong on that one.
Mamba is right. Some of those R&D guys ought to be fired. If I were the boss, they certainly would be fired!

Bugs could also be some sort of marketing strategy.

Yes they are. Its just a matter of findning the buggs (because you don't see a bug it does not mean its not there). However, some phones may be perceived as more buggy than others. But that's another story.

I updated the firmware on my w800 simply because it was stated that the camera and menu speed was improved .. didn't have a problem with the way they were or my phone in general .. but if they get improved for free by just plugging the cable in and clicking the mouse a few times .. why not? .. I've suffered cos of it .. but no-one told me (nevermind forced me) to perform the update .. and I'll be updating again in the hope of fixing the issues the firmware has caused .. I accept my part in corrupting my phone somewhat and I'm sure SE accept theirs and a fix for the bugs will be available soon if not already .. which seemlessly brings me to the speech made on SE bashing .. nice post .. if there's any phone in my history of ownership that I've been unhappy with .. it's Nokia .. especially the 8210 .. and my friend is currently having issues with the 6260 .. I'd rather own a Samsung than a Nokia but I suggest phones in SE's range to friends when their upgrade options are available .. only this week has a friend gone from LG to a SE K608i on my recommendation .. granted it was the only model available on the 3 network but there was many Nokias/LG/Motorola phones he could have free-mindedly opted for ..

@AYA, i agree with what you said about no phone being perfect and that not all phones are buggy. if you read my post carefully, i never claimed that all phones are buggy.
