it's just a placeholder for something they are working on or thinking about working on. doesn't mean it's official or will ever be used. it doesn't cost much to register a trademark. they just get it and if they use it, great. if not, it disappears. i wouldn't read too much into it.

About the new phones.
We were told that phones would look different , but still recognized as Sony phones.
XA2 and L2 : yes
But without the Sony / Xperia logo, none would guess that XZ2 is a Sony phone.
Was there any other very different project?
Cant believe XZ2 was the best one.. 😟

Does anyone notice XZ2/XZ2c may have different sensors?
On the back of XZ1, we have laser AF sensor, RGBC-IR sensor and the flash. But for XZ2/XZ2c there seems to be one more unknown sensor. Can it be the dual laser sensors? They still look different from the old laser sensor for me.
The front is also different from XZ1. The long and narrow hole containing proximity/light sensor is replaced with a round one. The front might only be a design change, though.
Any ideas? Did I miss any info or why didn’t Sony mention the changes? |

Yes, the Dot inside the circles means "Interaction with Agent"
You can see more of this concept design here:
https://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/design/works/products/anysurface/
It will be available gradually in Sony devices.
And more news:
New Trademark registered by Sony Mobile: X-Dimension Diversity: http://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentviewer?caseId=sn87814178&docId=RFA20180303075032#docIndex=0&page=1
A very interesting read, thanks for sharing. I couldn't finish it yet but it seems cool. X Dimension also looks like it's related to Any Surface. As in, any surface is no surface and any dimension. We've already seen this clock in XZ2, I wonder how long it'll take to finalize this new UI. Simple and sophisticated, and a touch of art. That's what I expect from Sony. |

I found this, regarding of X-Dimension Diversity.
It's actually inside a Digital Wireless Receiver.

Actually, I've noticed that before, since its launch day. But, I forgot to mention it here. Could it be the NFC receiver, though?

For me, XZ2 looks still quite Sony. The round corner is sharper than those of similar phones like HTC U11, which makes the overall outline still kind of boxy. This reminds me of my Z3 and it is comfortable to hold. The only difference might be the body is now fluid and dynamic rather than the old flat and static style.
Probably XA2 and L2 are easier to recognize because they look more like the previous XZ/XZ1. XZ2 is an evolution in design although the change is controversial. I think new phones will have more in common with XZ2 than the old models.

NFC antenna is a coil. It should be hidden under the surface.

IMO and probably true, Sony's decision to remove the jack had more to do with promoting BT headphones than space problem.. In the FAQ page they answer the same.. Trust sony to bring out more wireless headphones in the coming months.. |

They made a Q&A after the press.
The reason is that they are selling more wireless lately.
I visited their YOUTUBE channel a few minutes ago.
They are putting huge focus on Audio and HDR ( video recording and playback).
I watched a video from a spanish tech site, the wireless charger is big and thick because there is a kind of cooler inside.

For the back sensors, they are the same. There is the flash, the IRGB color sensor and the dual laser. If you tilt your phone where light hits the later sensor, you can clearly see the dual laser sensors (At least I can on my XZ Premium) |

It can be activated automatically from xperia actions. Even XZ has that not in the display settings though. |

Funny Q&A
" Pixel number isn't everything". Go use 5MP on rear then.
It costs way less than 19 or 23. |

Sony had to compromise something on the XZ2 so they can charge more for the XZ2 Pro. |
