Z3 spec:
MSM8994 A430 64bit ddr4 20nm
3rd of 2014
I think the MSM8994 should go out in late 2014, early 2015 making it ready for 1H15 device not 2H14 device...
unless this relates to the acceleration of 64bit efforts..
Some sources mentions the MSM8994 as an octacore two modules 20nm SoC

I know I might not have an answer, but will ask anyway:
When the Xperia Z2/Z2 Tablet were announced, some models on the stage had updated Walkman Album and Movies apps, with UIs that are pretty similar to the What's New app. They looked REALLY awesome and all. Looked like Sony was making their UI even better.
However, every Z2 Tablet and Z2 that are on hands of people who already bought it, the new apps aren't there.
From 3:00 mark, you can see a bit of the Album and Movies app: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvP34pGZ1hg
And here, from the 0:23 mark, the Album and Walkman app: https://www.youtube.com/watch[....]M&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now, my question is: What happened to those apps (the updated ones)? Why Sony did not included them on the Z2 Tablet and Z2 yet? From the few minutes we see it in those videos, they seem to work really well for me.
So, anyone has any idea?

Here we go again. Either stop pretending to be an insider or give us proper info. I saw the strides Sony were making from the arc S to the S to the T. I calculated that 2013 would be the year to overtake, and 2014 to annihilate the competition. I could have said something amazing was coming in 2012. Already doubts raised about you, and nothing in your favour so far.

So nothing will be cheaper to make, both OSes are free, the fact some pay a license fee to microsoft is not part of the OS price directly.
I didn't say that it was part of the OS price.. its collateral for Google's way of doing business. I am sure that Sony and Microsoft have a conversation on the matter of android patents.. there is just no way around it. According to this
http://www.fosspatents.com/20[....]nt-license-deals-continue.html
There are 18 patent deals so far. Motorola Mobility is another OEM that refuses to pay, but its only a matter of time: http://www.fosspatents.com/20[....]-dispute-microsoft-thumps.html
You can't just come and start using essential tech that someone else developed.. it doesn't work that way. Sony know this very well since they hold quite a few big patents themselves.
Either way, Windows Phone will be cheaper than Android for all the OEMs that have to pay fees for using it.
All the Android OEMs, including Sony, are doing quite well with Google's offering for now so there really is no pressing reason to invest into Windows Phone. I just think that Sony's designs and WP's UX would work quite well. |

Nothing surprising to be honest, Sony just did the same with Xperia Z Ultra last year .. It was first announce with new UI new features such as ( update Note app, new keyboard, new calender ....) However when it hit the stores it was loaded with Old UI similar to the one Xperia Z had .. but Sony later on update the device and add those features which they were showing off at the announcement .. |

As predicted, no flagship 64-bit chips from Qualcomm until 1H 2015
http://anandtech.com/show/792[....]te-category-67-support-in-2015
Hopefully this will put an end to the silly "OMFG Qualcomm will release a 5 GHz super 65-bit chip next month" theories
Snapdragon 805 will be the next chip everyone uses (Galaxy note 3, next Z series)
I would expect the Snapdragon 801 to be shown in devices for CES 2015

This matches the leaked roadmap I posted earlier
I was skeptic about should I go for Z2 or wait a little longer and have the Z3 instead.. but now, Z2 is perfect as it will be aligned with Z4 later in 2015
Man that MSM8994 ( Snappy 810 ) looks sexy !!
20nm
Octacore ( A57 + A53 in 4x4 configuration big.LITTLE )
Adreno 430
H.265 Decode
H.265 Encode ( the only one that can do this, the rest of Snappies can only decode )
Dual Channels LPDDR4-1600
The interesting note is that Qualcomm went back to stock ARM cores for the high-ends rather than using their own custom cores based on ARM designs but according to AnandTech, these might not be 100% clones to ARM designs
Although these are vanilla ARM designs, Qualcomm will be using its own optimized cells and libraries, which may translate into better power/performance compared to a truly off-the-shelf design.
So Qualcomm will put a little of it's sauce also to the mix...
This should make Z4 interesting... 4GB of RAM should be the minimum then in 2015... I hope internal memory will have two options... I guess Sony will already been moved to 32GB internal by then ( hello Sony Z3, Z2 is already getting some negative shouting regarding being a 16GB only high-end ), but a dual options 32GB and 64GB will be awesome... thought I think Sony will stick to the 32GB at the end...

Well, if it's 64GB internal, that would be an instant buy for me! My Z1 is definitely going to at least hold until 1H of 2015. Nothing much out there that interests me enough to upgrade at the moment. Not so sure 805 will either. |

I feel they went with an ARM design to speed things up rather than add a year or 2 to development for their own designs.
MWC 2015 should be exciting. |
