I miss my Xperia V quality aready but I'm sure when I'm done exploring this baby, I won't be missing my XV all that much anymore, especially with its super good looks, solid feel and zippy performance in every other department!

I am only asking because 1000-800 iso seems a bit high, but maybe it was darker than it seems.
In terms of performance, it makes sense... the Snap 800 is a monster. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the iPhone 5s camera performance.. that thing is simply flying.

@cu015170 Yes, all on auto. Frankly speaking, all of those shots are 50% dimmer in real life I would say. The camera really brighten things up! That's why I think it's gonna be popular with the masses. However, tech junkies are the ones who will 'spread a good word' on the product and that's not necessarily good for Sony, not in its current state as people have super high expectations for it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the camera. Its the expectations people have that are a bit out of touch.. but you can't really blame them since non of the OEMs or camera manufacturers ever cared to explain to the public how imaging (with the current tech we have) really works, and what is important.
They kept talking about megapixels over and over again for a decade, so now most people just go by that when in fact its not.
The most important part is how big the effective area of the image sensor is, and NOT into how many pixels that area is cut into. There is an ongoing debate on pixels size vs. pixel density, but ultimately.. its the area itself that makes the difference. That's the bottleneck if you will..

I recommend anyone interested in imaging to take a look.
Of course there are other factors..
But anyhow, on the Z1 .. you really can't expect much from 1/2.3" sensor cut into 1.4 micron pixels. I really don't know what people expect, but I think what you are getting its pretty good considering the imaging hardware used. Just look at how tiny that module (optics+sensor) is ...you can't expect more than that.. at least not with the currently used sensor technology. |

Looking forward to trying out Wikitude Places. Since the quality of the Z1 has significantly changed perception of those that have tried it thus far … we could quite possibly see more advanced photo and video applications come to the Android platform and to cloud services. One can only hope crap like instagram dies with real quality and creative pictures done by the top smartphones.
Sure its great at what we can do with pictures with applications etc … but ultimately its all about the subject, the angle, the idea and what the picture means that takes precedence … even the emotion or place in time it evokes or reminds us of. An example … that girl with the incredibly bright blue eyes from Afghanistan(?) that was featured on the front cover of National Geographic

I've been experimenting with the camera today using various settings and all I can conclude is is the Z1 camera is quite simply superb, if the Nokia is better I think we'd be splitting hairs, the pictures this camera can take are staggering, I was taking a few shots in low light and for a while I thought the flash was on until I looked and it was off
as for monkey - I challenge you to take a photo with your S4 and post it here with the correct date and exif info showing - not holding my breath as I think you are the biggest asswipe bullshitter on these forums - prove me wrong |

actually how much light gets in there is equally important
people are wondering why a 20mp camera takes 8mp photos, what they need to understand is that it is still the full 20mp sensor that is producing the 8mp photo - it's pretty clever stuff |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the camera.
We have 8Mpix camera, but Sony says it is 20Mpix. Nothing wrong you say?) Where this all magic features? Bionz,g-lens(blur at right part maybe?). 20Mpix with worse result than 8Mpix. It is too much wrong with camera. Hope they fix it. Non commercial sample at early software was outstanding, but now it is not. And i don`t understand why. |

As I said before, I think people are expecting too much, however as it is, there is a low light focus issue, something I didn't experience with my Xperia V, it always got the focus right no matter how dark it was. Can't say the same for Z1, when it's in focus, you can't help but feel some sense of relief. Believe me, I have sharp and off focus pics of the same subject, and from say 6 shots, only 1 would be in focus. You can even feel it while you take a snap, it will capture abruptly while the image in the view finder is still not focused properly. Something is definitely wrong there, I hope it's just software. Is anybody experiencing the same thing here?

So the screen protectors I ordered came today. I ordered the Illumishield because they were relatively cheap compared to the others ($12 shipped from Amazon) and offered scratch protection, fingerprint resistance, oil resistance, and ultra clear clarity. Some of the others who offered the same were double the price and some that were similarly priced didn't have all the features.
In addition, it's a FULL BODY kit, so there's one for the front and back. The each sheet is laser cut and fits perfectly. Even better than the one that came in the Z1 box. The feel is nice. Not plastically and while it's not completely fingerprint proof, it is a HUGEEEEEEEE different from using just the anti-shatter sheet. My Z1 is staying shiny and clear. I love it.
BONUS.. is for the $12, you get a microfiber cloth (typical), 3 PAIR of FULL BODY PROTECTION (yes that's 3 sheets for each side), and an application card thingy (typical). Installation is dry and easy. It also comes with a lifetime replacement warranty so even if you do go through all three sets, you can contact them and they'll send you more. As long as you can provide proof of purchase (keep the packing slip and order confirmation).
I'm very pleased with this screen protector so i wanted to share. We'll see how well it actually holds up with normal use and going in and out of my pocket, but so far it is great!
