I wish they manage to make an OLED-LED hybrid; I mean every pixel uses RGB filterless OLED and a white LED but I guess it would cause some unification issue. I also think they should make their UI's colors use the larger color gamut but keep everything else natural. It would be awesome if they manage to make an energy saving UI with dark colors.
btw I feel so innovative right now. |

Well played sir. Completely agree on RGBW OLED also, I think the problem is getting that in big volumes though
Didn't want to start any kind of war
Probably, but every problem can be sorted out.
But if that video showing prototype of JDI's screen is in any kind informative then those screens should offer full RGBW matrix without any kind of pentile like on current samsung screens, which should be quite nice.

Microsoft did it with their metro UI. Some of their first devices were using AMOLED screens.
But remember that people like having choice so one will like his UI black and one will prefer his UI colorful - that is why iphone is using IPS screens, no matter what you're displaying, the screen uses similar amount of power. |

Sony can use OLED if they wanted, I mean look at their cameras, even their Camera EVFs are now OLED, their cybershot compacts also use one, their Vita has one and many more. I don't really care whatever display tech my smartphone is using provided that I get the satisfying quality that I yearn for. I don't see the point bringing ourselves into pitting those display techs as if we were the ones who produced the thing.

I thought that the reason why they are not using oled is because they are not waterproof? FYI, the screen sony is currently using cost double samsung or htc.

Then allow me to decide for you, you will get more quality from LCD IPS, as of now. if OLED was so good RIGHT NOW then samsung wouldn't be the only company to really use it in more then 1 device, and even they are still using more LCD's then OLED's in most of their devices if i'm not mistaken.
@yuunanase
In general, i read the opposite, that OLED costs more to manufacture then LCD. that is said to be the reason for why sony stopped using OLED for PS Vita. also, OLED is harder to manufacture. that's what i read. Well, then if sony spend more money on the Z1 display then i would expect to see their efforts to show off better. i'm more impressed OVERALL with their rivals LCD display, not that i will buy a phone just for it's display, but if the Z1 screen was so good then there would not be units with different viewing angles visibility. some people do care about this and sony shouldn't ignore that, and please, don't tell me that all the consumers and reviewers who complain about viewing angles are liars. this is one of the common topic in every Z1 forum and mobile site i read. on the bright side, the Z1 screen is still a good screen and improved over the Z, so it's a progress, so sony should address this more in the Z1 successor. they are slow but steady it seems.

OLED is great with lovely colours, but it doesn't last as long as an LCD screen from what I have read? If they can develop the tech to be as resilient as LCD then it would be a better screen tech I think? |

What about refresh rates? I believe part of why Sony chooses OLED for EVFs on existing alpha/NEX cameras is because of this. Don't get me wrong guys I'm not trying to debate with anyone here I want to be educated to say the least. Some of you knows this stuff more than I do

Where will Sony fit in? Most likely not in the top 3! |

The value of the sales for Sony is more important than number of the units sold.
Is Q3 report out yet?

I've noticed handset sale numbers are posted in the rumor thread every time they become available. Why exactly is this? They are NOT rumors.
Please discuss them in the general Sony section: http://www.esato.com/board/viewforum.php?forum=2

^Well we really need something to talk about, as it seems rumors and leaks would be much less for this year.

there is incorrection in the "smartphone rumors" section - "Z2, the Z1's 2014 successor, 5.2" 1920x1080 IPS screen Page 10" - he never said 5.2 inch, he just said that the Z2 will have IPS screen. please correct.

is it Xperia Z1's international mini version Xperia Z1S? Or, when is xperia z1 mini event global market?
Yes! Z1F will have an international model! ! The same screen is IPS! CES will be available shortly after the release! 4 color retention! Z2 screen is still maintained at 1080P! Size is 5.2 inches! But the name will not Z2! !
Huiyi is a trusted source within the forum so it's classified under XR4

No worries mate, I appreciate the concerns thanks for the feedback
Still waiting for the real scoops to come
I do hope Sony would also touch the modular phone concept. its about time that we see real innovations. to be honest there hasn't been a revolutionary innovation on mobile technology since the advent of iPhones/Droids. fingerprint scanners and flexible screens be darned, they're uninteresting to say the least
