does anyone have an idea how the black buttons rund the D-pad are respoding...from the close pics they seem a bit cheep and hard to press...I do hope I am mistaking... |

I think all of the keypad looks awkward, like if it was made of hard plastic. Actually the G700 to me looks much better than the G900.
OK, since I've already started: the dedicated notes key. I'd prefer a shortcuts key or a browser key anyday. How many would actually use these phones in this way? The notes key is taking the sales concept of these two phones one step too far if you ask me. |

as long as it's configurable to other options. I can't stand hardwired shortcut keys when they are for something you never use

I think that depends on where you live and your operator. Western Europe probably differs a lot from other locations but I think however I agree that there is not a lot 3.5G can do that 3G can't.

Have to agree with you on both points, awkward plastic look and senseless notekey !
And doesn't G700i have physical buttons as well three lines on the touch screen for the same function ?? If they had a hard time to figure a senseful use for those buttons, they actually could have left them out and made the screen bigger instead !

hmmm i do think the new grey version g700 looks schweet!
Though, dont mind the brown g900 im seeing in live pics (mainly vergiles @ planete nokia)
Though overall id prefer the g700 design.

I don't see why you seem to belittle my need for HSDPA. In some parts of the world it is readily available and data plans are dirt cheap. That's one eye opener for you. And I would like to have you know that today, data speed is increasingly important than ever before especially for business. I can't be stuck at home to have a wifi/broadband connection so I (like many others) can opt for an unlimited 3G/HSDPA data plan (worth a fixed 25 euro per month, like I said dirt cheap) and utilize the mobility of my P990 anywhere, at anytime. At home I can use it as a modem. The problem is, it is never fast enough with a PC, not as fast as a cable broadband. Wouldn't you want the best option for your sole and primary means of internet connection? And as you can see, I am very comfortable with SE after a decade of being a loyal Ericsson/SE consumer, that's why it's a big, big deal for me and IF you can read, it is for others too.

The G series is to replace the K series, so it's expected they maintain the same look and feel. |

The G700 is better designed key-wise, it seems. Two more hard buttons in addition to the notes and message keys. And yes, a 2,6" screen would have been very nice. |

On another note yes, the G700 design is perfect IMO

I fuly agree with your sentiment here mode. If I was in your situation I'd also be disappointed about lack of hsdpa. But the fact is all SE phone's can't be everything to all people, so SE has to economise somewhere. Since there are HSDPA phones available (from SE and others) you really don't have a problem. It just means you can't have a G900. But I reckon by the next G-series, they will have a HSDPA version. I also feel that the critical mass of HSDPA services will soon be reached and it will be as common in handsets as 3G is now.

The frustrating bit is that HSDPA is not ultra new or even new technology and no SE smartphone has it to date. That is really, really bad for business. It means that the business community that wants to opt for HSDPA will have to single SE out in their choice of a business phone until the end of 2008 when the technology has been available from mid 2006 where I am. That is almost a 2 1/2 years gap we're talking about. It is just plain wrong, unacceptable for a leading mobile manufacturer like SE.
