Hi guys, i just want to ask, if we flash W850 software to K800, we will lose the joystick and camera, so why don't we flash only the walkman menu, acoustic and its flash themes? is it possible? |

that would be nice and simple, but unfortunately the only part of that equation that's not inside the MAIN firmware is the acoustics drivers. They are in FS and therefore we can mod them.
The rest is encoded in the main firmware. Extracting the Walkman Menu and Flash support from a main firmware file and inserting it in K800 is akin to rewriting the firmware. To do that you need to be an SE engineer with access to source code. And have a team of programmers and testers working for you.
The firmware can be modified with vkp patches, but the important difference is vkp doesn't actually rewrite the firmware code itself, it just patches in different string variables. It is not possible to patch the walkman menu or flash menu into non-walkman firmware, since we are dealing with code and not just simple variables. It can only be done by rewriting the main firmware, and for that you need access to the source code. No one has the source code except SE, and it's VERY time consuming to reverse engineer.

Use xs++, free and R1kG is available for download at se-nse.

Since opening a seperate thread failed to produce any responses, I'll try posting here.
I need to edit allowed_language.txt and customize.xml and supposedly FAR manager could do the job, but for some reason the editor within FAR manager doesn't open when I try to edit these files. The two files are not present in the extracted firmware, the folder contains only the .t9 and .lng files. So how do I get to edit allowed_language.txt and customize.xml? Anyone had this problem with FAR manager?
Any help would be very much appreaciated.

FAR manager does not have READ access to cid51/52 phones. This has been mentioned quite a few times. That means you can write file to the file system, or browse the file system, but you can't edit files (since they need to be read into the computer's memory in order to edit them). When you do copy files off the handset onto the computer, you will notice they are zero byte files, that means they are empty and not the actual files, just a container with the same name.
What you have to do is find the files you want to edit by extracting files from an FS image for the firmware your phone has. Then you edit them on the computer, then use far to upload them to your phone.
at se-nse, you can download zipped up directories of various file systems, these zipped directories contain all the files that exist on handsets of that firmware release. (it's in a sticky in the firmware thread)
Please note: if you have come far enough to learn how to use FAR, YOU MUST HAVE come across the information that the file system can not be read by FAR (only written). This is just a word of advice - you can kill your phone very easily by doing the wrong thing. Imagine if you had deleted critical system files? For example in FAR, to overwrite a file you need to delete it first - so imagine if you had tried to restore the files (the zero byte ones) that you copied from far? You would infact be putting back useless files over good files. None of these apps are developed with the noobie end user in mind - there are often no warnings or obscure warnings at best when doing things that can seriously stuff your mobile. S o you need to take care.

Thanks for the response! I apologize for the "noob questions", I just wasn't fully aware of the limitations involving FAR manager, I honestly didn't believe it was so primitive as it is.

no worries, just wanted to alert you to the danger, you didn't seem very well prepared. You are right, it is very primative. This is because SE only released loaders that could support writing, because they do not want to allow people to develop software that allows them to copy provider or drm content off SE phones (example games) - this would iritate their service provider partners.
The loaders are very hard to crack. Probably, in due course, there will be a brute force hack to enable reading the file system.

Could you possibly direct me to a place where I can find the files customize.xml and allowed_language.txt for a K800 R1KG001 EUROPE_4? I have looked at several sites, but haven't found anything. Thank you. |

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=6170
you can also backup the files off your own phone now, as I said a few posts up: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=154874
