I'm the one who first shared about XZs, XZP and XZ2 name. So if the information I shared this time is wrong then think of it as a joke

I had a chat with some Sony peeps after the MWC circus, some strange ideas and thoughts coming from them. In order to trim the top bezel they shifted the camera behind the screen and more towards the midde which is what made them use this curved back which is more prominent in the Compact. It must mean the sensor is quite fat or needs to be in a place to stop it from overheating, not sure though but the more recent Xperia phones can record 4K for ages.
I asked about the 3.5mm jack and they said it is something that can be added if its a major problem with consumers but Sony can push some new headphones and so on plus its the future etc. Now the dual camera is something that they believe will be a big step forward (the pics by Ricciolo are from a stand that was there comparing the single to dual sensors) and I got the impression that the XZ3 and so on will probably have this.
I asked about why the S9+ and iPhone X manage to have dual cameras behind the screen and minimal bezel which was a little bit rude actually. I think they would struggle because they are not so competent with design. I aksed about using the Arc design and having the dual cameras in the top and thickest part of the phone as well as putting the stereo speakers thus cutting the top and bottom bezels further, they sort of dismissed it and said that OLED screens are thin so the thickness of future devices would be reduced.
I asked about moving the FPS back to the side and having a power button on the opposite side to mirror the position. My idea was that regardless of being right or left handed, you press both together to unlock your phone so it shouldn't matter plus you avoid this US patent junk. I got little response but it sounded like if there were changes to the law or patent then they would definitely move it back to the side.
Finally, the XZ2 Premium isn't so much of a secret now. As it was to be announced together I got the impression that it would follow a similar design with all the 'standout' features of the XZ2. The dual camera is the main attraction with the screen. I'm not sure of the rest but they hinted that the screen size is greater than 5.7 inch. It was difficult to know when they want it out but it should be ready for Summer in which case an announcement will come this month. If not, its IFA so the question is what else will come at IFA? WIll it XZ2s or some mid rangers? That's all I could extract. |

So the design would change only if the supposed pro model has an oled screen?
And it's still not decided yet when to launch it, you say? I think they would scrap the whole idea and launch another one at IFA.. I mean if we look at it like a company who is reducing number of devices to increase profit.. It would be total shame if xz2 is overshadowed by its pro counterpart.. |

@badass thanks for all those info.
Imx400 is probably thicker than imx300 because DRAM. I have no idea how much Sony would pay to keep side FPS. As costumer I would not mind a bit more money added to the funal price, if it is not too much. It is more practical and better design.
Sony says XZ2 is 50% louder than XZ. Newer HDR screen that probably has better quality than XZ1. The possibility to record 4K HDR and play it on the phones.
As Sony Taiwan said, the entertainment is the main focus of the phones. Then the Premium could be an ultimate device for that.
Imagine if you guys could have maybe 6" screen but shorter than XA2U. Maybe same size of XZP.
The presentation of dual cam had a little comparison against iphone X.
The different is giant. It is like to compare HUMAN EYES X LEOPARD EYES in somewhere completely dark.
The guy of website BGR says he could check the sample and everything was very impressive.

I think the plan has been decided, this was supposed to be the showstopper device at MWC hence all this dual camera hype so I'm saying that I have no idea when it will launch. For a Summer launch you'd expect an announcement pretty soon. I would say that the XZ2 Premium will be a big device in the hand and a fair bit more expensive than the XZ2 so the choice will be there. You know, Sony sensors are big business and I believe Xperia will be here for a long time even if it seems like they're on a damage control strategy. I would've like Sony to come to a deal with Apple for the side FPS when negotiating the camera sensors but maybe Sony puss out in these negotiations.
@Archdragoon
I feel the same so I've just bought myself an XZ1 Compact, these are suddenly hard to find and expensive brand new. I feel like I'll have to wait for a Compact with the dual camera, perhaps OLED screen and a more refined design which is what we expect with the XZ2 Premium. I'm tempted to hold out for a new design language altogether because I'm just not loving ambient flow.
@Ambivalent_
My pleasure.

The XZ2 and Compact are actually very advanced devices in terms of tech, the design has put a lot of loyal fans off but these phones are very impressive if you look at them compared to the S9 for exapmle. Aside from the looks, there isn't much between them at all. With the XZ2 Premium, I'm anxious about its looks but I'm certain that the features will be great. |

Yes, basically.
Anyway, can someone confirm the fps of recording 4K HDR video? Is 60 fps recording supported on XZ2 in this mode? |

If there's an announcement near, I think it would be better if sony starts teasing it now.. It should be made known to all that such a device exists before the xz2 reaches stores.. |

Is the s845 good enough to run everything in 4k 60 now? I remember when xzp was reveal they said there was an option to run everything at native 4k but retail release never had it. Does the s845 even support vp9_2 for youtube 4k hdr video? |

https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-845-mobile-platform
sd845 supports 10 bit 4k hdr @60fps and spectra isp 280 support 16 mp@60 fps so it can be said 4k@120fps even possible.
heat could be problem even if it supports, or maybe they save it for xz2p... |
