You know that the iPhone has a 2mpx cam?!? And no "out-of-the-box" video recording?
A friend of mine just got the new iPhone.. He tells me that the battery is quite bad.. He work as a car salesman, and to make the battery last for the 8 hours he's at work, he has to disable 80% of the functions... He's actually putting it for sale now, and will be using his old P1 (with 's great battery lifetime) until there's a better phone on the market... |

This is definitely 30fps. I can't tell whether it's h.264 or not, but I will take the posters word for it.
Everyone has their own concept of ultimate device. Mine, for the time being, is the X1. Of course, it will be replaced by something I find to be better within a year, but for now, it is the one. Of course, everyone doesn't see it that way. Many people see their iPhone as the ultimate device and you couldn't tell them otherwise. But I base my opinion on the "total package" (iPhone's strength). Any particular spec may be bettered by another device, but overall, my ultimate device has the best aggregation of specs, user experience, size and sexiness. To others, sexiness and size are meaningless. To some, whether video is 24fps or 30fps or h.263 is irrelevant. I think I'm stating the obvious here.
As far as specs go, I feel X1 is tops right now. Yes, there are various devices with faster procs or more memory or more colors or faster/smoother UI, but, they usually cut back in another area I find important. So this is what I mean by X1 having the best aggregation of specs. No device can have the ultimate in everything AND be small and sexy too! (If so, I'm getting in line for one right now ). Therefore, I have to pick the device with the best "average". For me it's...you guessed it . TouchPro is running a close 2nd...sort of like Joe Frasier to Muhammad Ali. As far as aggregation of specs, these two are tops. For me, e90 is disqualified because it is big and no touchscreen. iPhone has a great UI but too much other stuff falls short. TouchPro falls short in some specs and I'm not too keen on TouchFlo 3D (as I stated several posts back).
Yes, I'll admit that X1 would have kicked much more @ss had it been out earlier, but, if we have to wait until Sep-Nov for it to be a greater device than what it would have been if it were released in March, then I'm all for the wait. Besides, none of it's similarly spec'd competitors are released yet either.
So no, I don't have this blind allegiance to the X1, I'm aware that it is just another device in the cycle of obsolence we all live through. But you have to stop and enjoy the moment and not worry about what's coming 6 months from now. If SE can deliver on most of their promises, then I'll be happy for that time period. |

How can you possibly say that is 30Fpfs? just how do you reach that conclusion? Also it doesn't seem all that smooth to me and just for your information most films are recorded @23-24fps not 30fps. All my Films and TV shows that i encode for my E90 are done @23fps H.264 800x352 and that plays Full Screen in Real Player.
Lets just wait and see what happens when the X1 arrives and see how your encoded material plays on it and just reserve judgment until then shall we?

Yes I know, but the 2Mpx, but the UI I guess compensates for that. I was referring to my choice of the Omnia over the X1. THe non removable battery is another issue, I like I having spare batteries for my phones.

Something must be wrong with you if a 24fps video isn't smooth to you, considering your eyes can't see more than 24 fps... Having said so, I didn't check the video myself, just felt like dropping that note.

The camera flashes are making it look jittery. Also, you're looking at a 30fps video shot through a (30fps or 24fps ?) camcorder then run through whatever damage YouTube inflicts. I'd say that video is holding up pretty well under those conditions. Yeah, it's smooth
Just because a film is recorded at 24fps doesn't mean the dvd media you're playing back is the same rate. NTSC video is 30fps (or 29.97) regardless of the framerate the movie was shot in. PAL/SECAM is 25fps, I believe. Same for audio. Even though an audio CD is 16bit/44.1KHz sample rate, in the music studio, it was probably recorded at 24bit/48KHz (or 96KHz), mixed and mastered at 32bit float or 64bit float. IOW, the original format and the format you have at your house are not one in the same.

@Mizzle
I really fail to see the point of your post as you havn't even watched the Video in question so just what was the point of your post?
Maybe you should read my post again where i say i encode my Films and TV shows @23fps and of course they look good at this rate otherwise i would encode higher. My point was it is not necessary to encode at 30fps! 23fps still produces excellent results so just what are you disagreeing with now?
@WhyBe
You really are hard work as i pointed that out to you about Video quality on a web site and all i said was it didn't look that great. Which is MO from watching it now you are giving me excuses as to why it doesn't look brilliant after saying it was and was also @30fps.
I still see no explanation on how or why you are sure it's @30fps? of course ignoring the fact that you just can't know that just from the clip can you. You keep on making all these claims based on what exactly? what you want to be true.

You should come to America and become one of those conservative talk show hosts on AM radio. Savage and Medved have nothing on you! |

I have no complaints on my P990 multimedia capability so i expect X1 to be at the very least on par or better, that's all that's expected of it. So is the multimedia limitation that severe or would it still surpass my expectation?

Apologies, Dogmann, somehow read it in another way. Thought you wrote that it didn't look smooth, and that the framerate was 23/24 fps

The -store site has the X1 listed as January 2009! But once you click the X1 link, it says "To Be Announced" for the release date
Then of course you have this announcement.
There's no release info distinguishing X1a from X1i.
I know one thing...this phone better be good.

Where 3D gaming and such your P990 will still be better than the X1. BUT the video playback will be superior on the X1 than the P990 but not on par with the N95/E90 |
