No it's a different region. There are one region for US and one for Europe/Japan.

@Leks. My Jap PSP, plays UK and US UMD's. So I think you are incorrect.
For example, I have a Jap PSP and I can watch the UK Spiderman UMD
If there 'was' a UMD lock, then Jap, US and UK would be different. not UK/JAP the same.

What is the best version of the software to go for and what is the best screen to go for. I have seen people selling japanese PSP's for sale, are they any better or worse than getting a UK spec model? |

better as far as im aware jc,
jap ones has sharp screens whereas Uk ones have samsung? and apparently the sharp ones are of a better quality?
