I keep asking my friend working at vodafone if he has the K850 yet... really keen to hold a dummy to see what its like in reality. Has anyone heard any updates on the K850 availability in nz?

I haven't bothered asking about the K850i for a while, because to be honest I gave up on waiting. The Vodafone people in stores seem to nothing of phones until they arrive. I think most of them really have little knowledge and just work for the money.

To be honest, I think the K850i will be a bit of a flop here. It will be too expensive, and anyone can see the N95 has better specs and is likely cheaper. Plus Nokia is a much more popular brand here!

Anyway, I hope this means it will end up nice and cheap for me (wishful thinking)

Have to agree with all of that.

Had a good look at the K850i on se dot co dot nz and I'm beginning to really like this phone despite the keypad. Haven't been tempted by a K-series since I had the K700i in '04. If it's half as good as make out it'll be awesome. I could possibly stand one more non-Wifi phone I guess...

Well your V630i technically is a K618i Carkitter!

I'm still tempted by the K850i, as I was when I first saw the pictures of it. I just won't have the money as I'm about to splash out on a proper Sony digital camera! I guess I won't need the K850i then, and I'll stick with my V630i until a decent WiFi phone comes available

BTW, I just updated the first post of this thread. Thought it needed it really. Let me know if you want something on there or want something changed

Actually, I think the K618 is technically a V630i.

You're welcome.
I thought it would be a good way to see which members are regular posters. Besides, Esato is so big you can easily miss people.

Did you catch the A1GP on TV3 this arvo? Jonny Reid put Black Beauty on pole for the Sprint race and 5th for the Feature. Won't be missing that tomorrow!

TV3 also announced that they will be broadcasting the V8 Supercars this year, not TV One. TVNZ did such a great job making the Qualifying and Races available commercial free on Freeview channel 20 and providing constant repeats that TV3 have a challenge on thier hands to match that effort. Go TeamVodafone!

Still nothing in the Vbox yet regarding special discounts

Wow, the number of Kiwis on here has jumped since I last looked. If i recall correctly, it was only Carkitter and I, when I first joined Edit: Nope, looking at the registration dates of certain others, Oli I am just plain unobservant;)

I really love the K850, and was sorely tempted to get one, but didn't really have the cash. It's a beautiful looking phone, pity about all of the firmware bugs and so on.

Have you guys looked at Parallel Imported on Queen St? (I'm assuming you're living in Auckland... ) Got my N73 off them. They have the K850 in at the moment (I was down there last week playing with one while trying to help my friend pick a phone to buy...)

As for A1GP, I've been so bogged down with work and partying and generally messing about lately, that TV is the last thing on my mind

@carkitter: I didn't catch the A1 GP but saw a bit about it on the news last night. Unfortunately I am working on Sunday so I will miss it! Maybe I can switch the TVs at work so I can watch, rather than the usual crap on C4
In regards to motorsport coverage, I believe TV3 will do a good job. I watch 3 News most evenings and I find that usually the quality of their coverage of things is good. I switched to TV1's news the other night and didn't like it one bit!

I'm sure something nice will turn up in that Vbox shortly! Wish I had one lol.

@Chrispy: Nah, not unobservant mate. Around the time you joined, I wouldn't have been very active here. Before mid to late 2007, I hadn't done much on Esato since 2005 because I didn't have decent computer access. Now I have my laptop and I'm back long-term!

I don't live in Auckland, but I do regularly check Parallel Imported's website as I've bought some phones from them before. I have decided against the K850i because of complaints that the touch sensitive keys don't hold out, and I really don't want another faulty or bug-riddled phone. But you're a lucky b*st*rd for being able to have a play with one!

Seeing you've had experience buying your N73 from PI, could you tell me whether all the functions work, eg. 3G, video calling, etc. At the moment that is the only thing holding me back from buying a new phone from them! I've only ever bought 2.5G phones from PI before.

Cheers

Setting up the 3g access point and all was pretty simple, as I just went to Nokia's site and got sent the settings. As for video calling, I don't have the settings at the moment, due to not having anyone to video call! I suspect ringing up Vodafone could be a good place to start, though I'm not entirely sure on how one gets video calling set up. When my Bestmate gets a video phone, I shall have a go at getting it working for sh*ts and giggles

On another note, I was very impressed that PI included an NZ charger with my phone, what seems like a Nokia one, in the sealed box. The phone has Chinese characters on the keys though. quite an odd thing to happen I thought...

Ive bought a K750, K800 and N95 from parallel importers on trademe and have to say ive been pretty impressed. It was as if i went down to vodafone and got one retail! And no chinese symbols either and all brand new straight out of box with original additions in box Great prices too, i saved approx $200-300 each time.

I too got a nz charger for all of the above, and just went onto SE or nokia site to get settings working. No probs there.

Have to say im rather tempted by both K850 and N82, although dont have the money to buy either! Prob best as i couldnt decide between the two anyway!
