I know the C905 isnt a smartphone or anything but with WIFI and GPS on board I would imagine the phone would have to have a decent amount of RAM to stop the phone crashing ect....

i don't think C905 will be using the same hardware as K850... it ruins the flagship phone otherwise...

According to Kenneth Møller, National Account Manager, Sony Ericsson Denmark and Iceland, the C905 will cost around the same as the K850 did when it was released

We've had a chat with Kenneth Møller, National Account Manager, Sony Ericsson Denmark and Iceland, about today's announcements as well as some general phones talk. Here's what he had to say smile.gif

Q. The new C905 Cyber-shot features an 8-mega pixel camera - was that a necessary step?

A. The amount of mega pixels is one of many factors we're continuously working with to get the best image quality. With the C905 you can even share your photos via DLNA to i.e. your TV or Playstation 3 and thereby show the photos in a large size. This is where the amount of mega pixels makes a considerable difference.

Q. An important factor when it comes to mobile phone cameras, high resolutions and alike, is the size of the camera sensor. Any news on this front to avoid picture noise, colour errors, and alike?

A. C905 has a larger camera sensor than what we've seen in previous models, but apart from that we're working on advanced features such as face detection and smart focus, which in different ways is what consumers of compact cameras and mobile phone cameras want.

Q. Many will say the C905 lacks optical zoom. Why was this feature excluded?

A. During the development progress we're continuously evaluating based on what combination of features that delivers the best user experience and the best combination of features, size and price. In the case of C905, we think the 8.1 MP in combination with the possibility to share your photos on your TV is the best solution. Apart from this you can now also geo-tag your photos with the built-in aGPS and use it for navigation purposes.

Q. The TV-out cable ITC-60 is announced as an accessory to the C905 - can it be used with other phones?

A. C905 is the first phone by Sony Ericsson with TV-out functionality.

Q. The Sony Ericsson F305 is the first model in a revived F-series of gaming phones. Will this series be reserved cheaper phones, or will we also see more expensive phones in this series in the future?

A. We strongly believe in our new F-series, but can only make statements about announced products.

Q. What makes the gaming experience on the F305 unique compared to i.e. the K850 and W910, both also featuring a built-in accelerometer?

A. With an accelerometer as in F305, you get expanded possibilities to use different movements.

Q. With the Cyber-shot phones now in the C-series, will the K-series be used for price-friendly phones such as the K330?

A. The K-series will be used for phones in the entry-level segment. When it comes to imaging, we've got the S-series; Snapshot to complement the Cyber-shot range in a more competitive price level.

Q. The C905 in particular has received lots of publicity in the media and on various forums. Is this a so-called hero product?

A. We announce what we think gives the best user experience in the imaging segment. With the C905, we announce several new technologies and applications, that we believe will take the photos from your mobile phone camera to the next level. That's why we strongly believe the C905 will communicate to all.

Q. What will the new phones cost?

A. It's not Sony Ericsson without the operators that can set the prices for the markets, and they can vary by market. Our estimate is that the C905 will cost around the same as the K850 did when it was released.

... and now some more general questions.

Q. The XPERIA brand was launched earlier this year, and even since we haven't seen any further additions in the XPERIA range. Are there any plans of announcing one or more this year?

A. We've announced the X1, which will be released during Q4 2008. We can however not comment further on any unannounced products.

Q. How does the future look for high-end phones by Sony Ericsson? At the latest few announcements the primary focus has been on cheap entry-level models - is it the plan to continue this?

A. We'll be expanding our product portfolio in full to satisfy all kinds of markets.

Q. Is there still a market for ultra-thin phones?

A. The size of the phone is still an important factor, that must be balanced with the feature set and price.

Q. Numerous competitors have announced luxury models - does Sony Ericsson see a future for these phones or are they niche-products?

A. Our goal is to deliver a unique user experience for consumers with different needs. This goes for all segments.

Q. Professional UIQ-phones are a rare sight nowadays - are there any models in the pipeline or is the platform less suitable than Windows Mobile for this kind of phones?

A. Sony Ericsson today works with a set of different platforms that all add different parts to the portfolio. UIQ is still an important platform, complementing Windows Mobile in X1.

I need a smartphone though, so I'll be looking at the BB Bold & Nokia E71.

I have to ask, what makes you need a smartphone? What can a smartphone do that the C905 can't?

Calendar!
* I'm limited in the amount of text I can enter. I cannot seperate the Title from the actual notes of an Event/Appointment/Meeting. Heck I cannot even seperate those like I did above ^ . Their all appointments in the SE system (non smartphone).
* When I enter the beginning & end times on another platform (BB) I get a QUICK total time just below to see how long that appointment is. My previous job this was CRITICAL! I would be scheduled for 8hrs a day and by the 4th hr it was requested that I work OT up to 13hrs max because of current laws. The type of position I had, by law, only allowed for 60hrs/wk. I didn't want to work past that and NOT get paid - they would NOT shift it over to the next week because all employees hours are DOUBLE checked in 2 systems - then billed, so if it didn't match you'd be under the management gun so to speak. I would commonly in that 2.5yrs time work around 55-60hrs for 3wk/mth. Plus school meetings for my kids, volunteering for trips.
* you can see how above would look cluttered on the platform phones! I've used the T39, z500/z600/z520, K750, K790a, K850i and NONE have been improved in this field, NONE! Only the color. Its good but its OLD and when improved the messaging I was appalled that everyone wanted that & NOT include for Calendar to be improved.

Curious about the settings on the C905 regarding WiFi. Does it support encryptions? Does it allow a specific IP & DNS Gateway to be entered by end users? Does it allow for public, fee-based accessed points to be connected & used?! Does it support VoIP on J2ME apps or via UMA by supporting networks?!

This phone now i seen proper pics of it looks so cool. Very nice design reminds me of another phone i cant think of. 8.1 mega pixels is a bit much though 5 or 6 is enough for me 8 mega pixels takes up too much memory. Wont buy it till its been out a while though. Does it have VGA recording yet.

Could someone who read my post forward this question (sounds more like a demand) to SE, please? Maybe it can be asked in tomorrow event. . .

Why SE only put QVGA video recording in C905 instead of VGA? I hav read the whitepaper.

As we all know, Nokia, LG and Samsung hav done that several years ago (example N82 and N95.) nokia even prepared something bigger like 720x480@30fps in their next phone!

SE could do VGA easily (already decent sensor), and I don't know the reason SE struggling at QVGA. . .

If that's because the problem of big video size, ow c'mon. . . They already packaged 2 GB M2! And to make sure, SE can add the option to record video at VGA and QVGA, and maybe adding customizable video bitrate features to this CyberShot Flagship C905!

I heard some members in esato complains about this. 2 peoples I read even decided to buy N95 for this silly reason. . .

And we all have read many comparison review (mobile-review, gsmarena, etc) about K850i vs N95. . . Every reviewers have a critics that QVGA is a let down to K850i, comparing to Nokia.

Why SE repeat this mistakes again in C905? I don't want the reviewers throw this critics again to point the stupid weakness of C905!

And how a non-CyberShot branded X1 Xperia could do VGA rec, while C905 "High-End" "CyberShot" "Flagship" that has a PRICE tag almost 590 euro could only do QVGA rec. . .

Many people DISAPPOINTED :crying:

And I don't know why SE doesn't make C905 as PERFECT as possible, like adding following decent features, that could rises C905's selling point:
- SmileShutter (firmware)
- Dedicated play button
- Manual Focus and Saturation (firmware)
- Stereo Speakers with Neodymium Magnet Drivers
- Flash Lite 3 Support (firmware)
- TouchScreen to do Touch-Focus as introduced in G900
- Bluetooth 2.1 support
- HSUPA support
- Wi-Fi 802.11n support (currently only b and g)
- An option to enable or at least adjusting Noise Reduction Levels, since every people have different taste of matter to prefer "lot noise but high detail" or "low noise at the expenses of reduced details" (firmware)
- CCD Sensors with Liquid Lens technology from Vario-Tessar. (just googling about this liquid technology, reduced lens distortion, lower power usage, ability to auto-focus and optical zoom WITHOUT WASTING SPACES, the phone will NOT be thicker if you implement optical zoom)
- MicroSD Support, why SE abandoned it? Maybe they want to raising M2 selling? Politics. . .
- Torch Features like K850i has
- A jog scrolling key like BeiBei has
- Using 2.6" VGA 16.7M OLED display. Samsung has already using OLED display in their mobile phone (just look at wikipedia about OLED display. Lower power usage (maintain battery life), better angle, contrast and response time compared to LCD. And it's much cheaper than LCD)

I'm sorry if I asking (probably dreaming too much =p)

Back to my point of this post, could someone DEMANDING SE to put VGA rec, if you don't mind? Just forward this arguments to the high staff of SE. Or maybe SE's president

Many people hav asking VGA rec since K850i bad era. . . Why SE doesn't take a lessons from K850i fallen?

Please show them C905 discussion thread in esato, and look at many people complaining QVGA rec, all with pesimism. Maybe we should start a petition?

SE still have 5 months to change this easily before released, like what SE do in X1 Xperia (increasing RAM.)

I hope some high staff from SE read my posts.

Thanks For Your Attention, I'm sorry if I say something wrong. Everybody makes a mistakes

Damn kid (I mean that figuratively)!
For just 12 posts you slinging STONES!

However you are VERY correct! is only giving us satisfying devices, not revolutionary devices.

* - CCD Sensors with Liquid Lens technology from Vario-Tessar. (just googling about this liquid technology, reduced lens distortion, lower power usage, ability to auto-focus and optical zoom WITHOUT WASTING SPACES, the phone will NOT be thicker if you implement optical zoom) .

I've been screaming for this in phones by end of this year, considering Seiko is in MAJOR production now for units to be sourced out! Wonder if Nokia will incorporate this for a future 8MP/10MP camera to show up others, or will Samsung muscle everyone else with this?!

OLED, I'm shocked wasnt' the first in this real. Maybe its the speed for video & contrast that is a concern.
