Well, let's stick to facts for the time being...
ajack reports that as of yesterday a new beta version Organizer: R6E28 is available on Emma 3. He has reported that in initial tests the two bugs introduced in R6D23 have been fixed (Ctext Layout and space bar bugs).
He also said that the memory management seems to have been significantly improved. Now that is very interesting. About 6 hours after the announcement that SE will work on a new fw for P990/W950" a new fw shows up with the bugs corrected (OK, that is easy, just copy/paste from the previous version) AND better memory management?
Now, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that SE couldn't have done both things in 1 day. Which means,
1- SE was either already working on a new firmware
2- We know that P1 fw is still being developed and SE may just have copied part of that fw over to the P990
Now, if (1) is true it was a very stupid move to announce cancellation of support for the P990 or was it a test to see if they could get away with it.
If (2) is correct then we may not have missed the bus for the P990. I'm really sorry for the M600 users, I think it is unfair to them and I really would have been very angry if the situation was reversed.
I also just received an email from SE support saying that the availability of any further fw development after the August one would be decided on based on user feedback. I guess this is good, at least SE has accepted that the P990 does need improvement in its fw.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

That would be very good, but if you remember while testing R6D23 he also reported significant memory managment improvement which ended terrible. Knowing that ajack is extremely sincere person I cant figure out what happened, only hope that this time it is true.
Also kudos to Ares, he done such a great job, before all by inspiring all of us to rise our voices...if it was me i would still stick to R4B13 , thank you Ares

Well, he did say that he was doing the test on a sterile system, that is no 3rd party software installed except SMan. I have asked him to try to test as many of the bugs on the wiki as possible but to be honest that is a huge task.
In my opinion and experience with the P990, I personally haven't encountered more than half the errors described. That is why I am going to make the following suggestion: when the new fw is ready, let's all follow this procedure:
1- Format+Master reset+flash
2- No restoring the settings and 3rd party applications
3- No installing 3rd party applications for 24 hours
This way, we should all have consistent errors (hopefully we wouldn't find any errors )
This would be great help in definitively fixing the errors.

How come P990 and W950i are getting another firmware and not m600, i thought that M600 and W950 have similar firmware so they would both get a new firmware not just one. There is people with W950i firmware on a M600 on youtube

i think it'll be a good idea if SE will Open source the P990 and W950 firmware. |

Some people will always remain diehard SE fans, no matter what your advice/experience
Yes and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If you love the weather, food, culture & people of your country (eventhough it might be terrible in terms of the quality of life as compared to most other countries), you're not gonna abandon it just because it's screwed up (ie. at war or your leader's a dictator). You'd stay, make the best of the situation and fight on...especially if you don't have money to flee, |

That is not possible. Symbian is not the property of SE, they just license it same as Nokia.
Besides, taking such an action would have other drawbacks, not everyone's intentions are good and noble. Can you imagine the kind of malware that could flood the UIQ3 phones and the damages it can cause?

Ermm - thats not quite true anymore, SE bought UIQ a while back http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/07/sony_ericsson_buys_uiq/

@itguru2
Well your not right either as Symbian is an OS and UIQ a user interface both S60 and UIQ run on Symbian. SE do not own Symbian they do own UIQ.
