I'm really disappointed to hear that the silver is coming off on your navigation button. Thats exactly what happened on my old W810i, and I really hoped that SE would have improved the materials used, as it was a common problem.
Its one of the reasons I changed phone, and just hope it doesn't happen to my W580i too. |

Unfortunately this is what has happened to my phone. My keypad cracked, and silver came off the navigation button. They replaced my keypad for free, but the navigation button costs SGD$45.98. I was very shocked and surprised. One of my friend who is holding on to S500i also has the same problem, silver coming off the centre button of the navigation pad.

have that same paint wearing off problem on mine. it doesn't bother me though. Although, I just noticed though that my number 4 key is starting to fracture too. mine is a week 29 or week 31 device if I'm not mistaken. My girlfriends s500i mysterious greens keys fractured after less than a week of usage.
what happened to the Q&A of sony ericsson? |

i'm really interested in this phone. I was wondering if SE really pulled the product out of the market due to the chipping of the keypad paint.
how will I know which week the w580i was released? I might be getting one this weekend. thanks!

Im surprised the paint has come off the navigation key in these phones so early. It didn't happen on my old W810i until I'd had the phone well over a year, so if its happening already on the W580i, that would suggest the materials used are actully getting more inferior.
Regarding turning off the pedometer to increase battery performance, I can also vouch for this. My phone is on its 3rd day since last charging, and has been used for at least an hours MP3 playing each day, plus several calls and many texts. However, has anyone else found that the battery state (as a percentage on the phone status section) goes up and down?
Another thing I've noticed - when you end a call by closing the phone, it doesn't activate key guard lock as it would normally. You have to open and close it again! |

I noticed dodgy keypad quality wen i bought a housing for my w810 off ebay, how the little 'metallic' circle for the joyapd was see thru in the dark, I didnt think that stock SE original housings would have the same quality tho, thats really disgusting to have payed so much money for a "good old SE quality" fone, and get something dodgy. You guys should contact SE, and make complaints so that atleast they would become aware of the problem and maybe even try to do sumthing about it |

shitty quality is not why you buy SE phones. its so that they dont get away with thinkning that its ok to have halfassed QA in order to push MORE phones out. id rather less phones and HIGHER QA so the phone i do get isnt wasting time back and forth for warranty issues. this is sad!!! |

VERY SAD indeed. And SE should be ashamed of such a situation.
* whatever happened to quality control. I was really hoping to pickup this device for myself; even waiting for the black version but I'm not even going to touch it for quite some time.
* AT&T just picked up this version - few weeks behind Rogers Wireless in Canada. Will they have the same issues?!
* SE should pay for the shipping & handling to ALL international service points (to & from). This is a NEW phone that ppl have paid for and should not incur a NEW COST/expense JUST to return it to have it repaired (its like paying full retail or contractual price for a USED phone)! Those that JUST signed a 1-3yr contract with providers expect their new phone to work within at LEAST the first 6mths; when in just 4-10days they have to send it it for repair and get some nasty germ infested, dust bunny partying internals, dirty 4yr old GSM phone with a black & white SCREEN????!!!!!!
ATrocious!
First the P990 fiasco, now this? what the heck is NEXT?
Frakn shite like this will FORCE ppl to other platforms .... and quite frankly Nokia's S60/S40 is looking really nice as an alternative. v5 of S40 will be able to run multiple java apps; like the S60's and more functionality for the same price on an S60 phone. I cannot stay loyal to SE any longer, not with quality control issues like this ... and no mention of THEM paying for THEIR mistake?!
I love my K790 but I'm already going through intermittent non response of my joystick when pointing DOWN! thats why I was looking towards the W580. I wanted the exercise joggin app, slim design, a2dp and joypad. Now I might as well downgrade back to a new W810 before those are discontinued.

I'm thinking of changing to the W910i when it finally comes out anyway. Not that I'm not satisfied with the W580i, but it does have more features.
Besides, when I had a W810i before, to go to a lower number somehow feels like you're going to a cheaper end of the market - does anyone else think this way?
I've read a few forums about the W910i and it seems like it's very well made, although I don't suppose the silver used on the navigation button will be any different. |

Hi. I am from SG and I got the blue-grey version of the w580i from a contract renewal. Had the phone for a couple of weeks. Everything seemed to work fine at first but now it is giving me this piss-me-off issue.
Sometimes in sleep mode(screen totally black), I could not activate the screen whether by sliding the phone back n forth or pushing any of the navigating or keypad buttons. These actions did turn on the blue-green lighting on the navi keys and keypad but the screen just stayed black. Not sure if there is anything wrong with the hardware or software but it sure is frustrating when you need to use the phone but it can't wake up from sleep. Could take up to 3-5mins before getting lucky and seeing the screen alive again..kns
Reading and agreeing with other users of the same phone model, I noted:
- the silvery paint on the navi key is starting to peel. Navi key n volume button is made of cheapo plastic
- no setting to turn off sleep mode
- can't seem to perform Shake function to shuffle songs
- have not encountered broken keypad yet..
So.. potential buyers of this phone model pls take note..
btw i tested out my friend's N95 sound quality.. appears to be better-sounding than my w580i. Friggin' impressed esp when paired with a good sony earphone ^^" |

Hi guys. I really like the phone and I think its time to update from my K750i. I want to know a few things before I decide to buy it though.
1. Does it have an FM radio
2. Is the speaker volume louder than the K750i
3. Is the headset volume louder.
The volume was a big dissapointment with the K750i and it really is bad when compared to the volumes on the nokia 6230i
Are the sound volumes any better on this one?
Thanks |
