ok people i need advice. I am thinking of getting my first ever apple computer - one of the new macbooks.
So i am after any general advice people have - is the new macbook anygood, will i find it as quick as my P4 3.0Ghz, 512mb PC i have running XP - as i want this sort of performance but in a laptop, and the big question should i really buy an apple or stick with a windows machine :?
Finally is now a good time to buy a macbook - are there any rumours of changes/upgrades/new os or anything in the near future, i know the macbook is brand new but you never know and i don't want to fork out all my hard earned and be left with an out of date machine in a months time!
Thanks,
Tom
EDIT: Because i can't spell

k you seem to be in a similar position to me.
firstly my 3 year old 1ghz pb titanium ran faster then my 1.8ghz pc which had more ram! so a 2.0ghz intel duo processor would bitch slap your pc to hell and back before slowing down.
regarding the updates as far as I know there are no new models planned right now, but im sure there will be some kind of update in a few months (they were all updated last week I think)
I myself am waiting till august to get my one as thats when im off to uni, but the reason behine me waiting is more of the things in my head as its like a new computer for a new beginng etc
I have also purchased a new 20 wide screen display for my new macbook even though its like 3 months away lol
One other thing is normally a 1gb chip of apple ram costs £210 each, but I can get the same type so fully compatable for £60 a chip whcih I thought was good
you may have heard of alot of problems regarding a whine and over heating from the macbooks, but I believe that this is not a very common problem, as only those who have have the problem complain about it, but also apple have just released firmware patches which are management for the cores so this problem is getting kinda fixed
also mr tom what kinda setup u thinking about getting?

i was a windows user since the days of 3.1, swapped to mac osx last month and it was the best move i ever made, my intel 2 ghz, kills my 3.4ghz p4 with ht, so much its funny.
get an imac 20" it kicks ass.

Hmm this is abit weird! To bring expose up you press F9 to show all windows right.
But when i press F9 or F10 nothing happens but F11 (desktop) and F12 (dashboard) work fine!

look at the F9 button and make sure it has no other purpose

Yeah i know it has another purpose, for the brightness of the backlight on the keyboard!
How do you change it though?

in dashboard and expose. What you should do is go to keyboard and mouse and check the key settings there, as it could be its been chened so you need to press the apple key and the F button etc

in theory it should be covered, although im not quite sure how you go about getting it replaced via apple. I assume you need to ring them

I had exactly the same problem with my Mighty Mouse and got a replacement from Apple by calling them.
However, my second Mighty Mouse has started to develop the same problem, but I've found how to fix it myself.
It just dust etc, that seems to accumulate under the ball. Here's the things I do to clean it out.
- Hold the ball down then blow really hard through the gap around the ball
- Blow really hard through the gap on the underside of the mouse (near the top edge)
- Turn the ouse upside down and roll the mouseball quite vigourously on a lint-free cloth
- Poke thin (3-5mm) strips of paper down the gap around the ball and wiggle them about to dislodge any bits of crap down there.
I find I have to do this every month or so.
