It's being shown around within Sony Ericsson at the moment. I believe they are trying to keep the gap between announcement and launch to a minimum, unlike their usual horrible 6 month gaps which can be typical of them.

I tired that with O2 in Ireland, and they said ok leave !!
O2 are loosing customers here to beat the band and they dont seem to want to do anything about it

Hiya, are you trying to get an Arc from O2 Ireland unlocked? Interested to hear your story as I was thinking to get one from them but need it unlocked as it's used across two countries. Drop me a PM if you like. Thanks, Dus.

for everyone thats interested, just tried the gingerbreak method of rooting the arc and it works perfectly. here's how
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045751

so now we can root the arc without unlocking the bootloader for those that wish so.

Battery drain definitely seems to be to do with using the camera. It must be the module not shutting down properly.

I use the camera quite a few times yesterday and my battery only lasted 1 day. Previously I'd be getting 3 - 4 days out of the phone without touching the camera.

I suppose the only workaround is to reboot the phone or grin and bear the battery drain if you need to use the camera. Fingers crossed for a quick update from SE to fix this.

Ahh, so it is the camera... Hopefully SE will fix this with an update, but its good to know that there is an issue with a program rather than just poor battery life in general... With Android it does tend to be a rouge program that drains battery... Thankfully I'm used to having no camera from when I had the Desire and was rocking custom Froyo ROMS that didnt have the correct drivers or whatever... and now using a BB Curve, its like having no camera anyway!

I assume that using a task manager to kill the camera process doesnt actually help?

^ No. Tried task killing it and didn't make any difference. Only a reboot will sort out at the moment.

The only concern I have about the battery is sometimes it eats so much energy in the night
on flight mode and sometimes NOT.
It's not consistent behaviour.
However in general bettery life here is the same as on every other big screen smartphone.
I don't freak out about it.
In reverse we have very well working smartphone here.

But it's a service. I don't see it in running services but sometimes in background processes.
