Hillcrest is fine.
It's next to Northcote but not as dodgy. It's a pretty standard area closer to shops, workplaces, schools and motorways.
Castor Bay is an upmarket area as all coastal areas are. It's definitely more remote than Hillcrest, some prefer that/some don't.

Hmm... Not sure if I like the sound of that, but we'll keep looking anyway. Thanks for your advice by the way, it's nice to have somebody I can consult about various places I have no clue about!
How was everybody's Christmas? Mine was fine, we just did the usual family parties and barbecues and my 5 month old nephew was the star of the show. Not a lot for me on the present front but I suppose that goes with getting older... I was just glad to get four days off work!

Went to Muriwai Beach on Christmas Day afternoon with my girlfriend and then had dinner with friends. I spent Boxing day with two of my sons aged 5 and 4. One of them is into airplanes so I got him a toy plane, specifically a FA-18 Hornet US Airforce jet complete with an array of missiles and two pilot figures. It's about 50cm long so it is mighty impressive; he was so excited when he saw it. The elder one I gave a radio controlled boat and we spent the afternoon down at Waiake Beach playing with it and water pistols. After dinner we went to Western Springs to watch the speedway:
Yesterday we went to Kawakawa and Waiti Bays east of Auckland and finished up at Miranda Hot Springs for a evening swim.
The sea around Auckland is looking especially good ATM and I don't have a boat. I think it's about time I went for a trip on a ferry to one of the islands in the Hauraki Gulf. I haven't been to Rangitoto or Waiheke Islands for a few years now.

lol, we also went to speedway, was very busy.
Btw, if you go to Harvey Norman, you can get a rain check for a netbook equivalent to HP Mini 110-1111TU for $288!

It certainly was. The racing was great, lots of crashes, good atmosphere, a very enjoyable night. Pity we couldn't stay past 10pm but had to get the kids home. We'll definitely be back again soon though.

Would anyone be interested in participating in a NZ Tour thread using my V800?
It would be like the W810 World Tour but with the focus on posting pics of the places you regularly visit - home, work school, uni, shops, sports, etc and less on discussion of who gets the phone next. If the thread is successful around NZ perhaps the phone could venture offshore... who knows?
I'd like to start it on Jan 1st and will probably need to send it to Muhammad Oli pretty smartly before he leaves Christchurch, it could then go to yea g and on to anyone else who's interested... whad'ya think?

That sounds like a good idea carkitter, but not sure if we'll get many people. Still, it would be interesting anyway.
Hopefully people like soane28, JiSm, K71 and frankthetank get on here and get involved. Then it would work out great I reckon. But if you want to start it and you want me to do it before I leave Christchurch, definitely go for it.

Well, I am going on holiday on the 2nd so it would have to be sent to me after. I don't think NZ post would be able to get it here in time if you sent it today

I don't want to send it to people who are going on holiday, I think that's where the W810 thread went wrong. People started saying that they could take the phone here and there and we lost track of them. I want people to be at home when the phone comes to them and to photograph some local places. It's about the phone experiencing Esato member's lives not the phone growing a life of it's own.

Well, finding a place to stay in Auckland is pretty difficult! It's not a lack of places to stay, it is that agents won't let out a place without meeting us first, meaning we have to go to Auckland just to secure a place.
At the moment we are looking at apartments in Albany and there are some pretty nice ones. Hopefully one of them comes through...

yeah Auckland can be a pain for that, but at least you will be on the Shore. i think all of us Aucklanders will have to catch up over a beer at some point. |
