@angel: I did load N400 on top of the N14 I had yesterday before the thing worked :-0

However, note that it does cut off every now and then. For example, it cut off again this morning but returned within an hour. No qualms, since its still being test-run - and its FREE!

I checked my GPRS counter just a minute ago, and I have done 23mb since yesterday night. That's over N7, 000 on GloDirect!

@angel: I don't think that there is any special setting involved.

I almost gave up yesterday too, but the thing eventually connected after several hours of "Network not responding" (Nokia 9500)and "Incorrect GPRS profile" (Siemens S55) messages.

I didn't change anything; it just started working after a while. Seems to me like the network finally "woke up" to the reality that someone had been knocking on the door.

I am posting this from my PC, using my 9500 and MTN line as a GPRS modem.

I am in the news!!!

So?

I ran into a syndicated news article on the Vanguard's website today, and there I was in black and white

I granted that interview over a month ago and didn't give it much thought. You know, who would listen to a crancked up guy like me? Well, it looks like I said something worth mentioning Just imagine, me and Dirk Smet (former CEO of Starcomms) side-by-side in the same article....

Don't bother with me and my excitement one bit, but this is my first appearance on a news media. Of course, its exciting. First time always is.

Oh, by the way, here's the news item: http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/features/technology/tec220072005.html

@ AYA, you seem to be able to do a lot with gprs o, imagine connectin it to your desktop. i've got a desktop and a laptop too how do i hook up my system with the network. i know i can connect my phone internal modem to my laptop via infrared. and the phone came wth an installation cd for phn modem or something. is it like setting up a normal dial up connectivity?

congrats on the publicity

@2tek: Its fairly simple to setup, but difficult to put into writing.

Yes, its pretty much similar to setting up a dialup connection.

If your phone comes with a software CD, it can be a fast painless setup, as most connectivity software should automate the setup.

This thread just went "dead" since yesterday evening Abi MTN don corrupt all of una systems?

On my end, I'm on 54mb of free GPRS and still going strong. If MTN keeps this up for a few months, my Glo line will be forced into hybernation.

@mamba: Its not officially out o, so don't go calling no customer care. 2tek posted the settings a few pages back, so take a look. Simply put in the settings correctly and cross your fingers. So far it seems only 2tek and I that its worked for.

My Y'ellow GPRS count: 100mb and still going strong...

But you guys are funny, going to buy MTN lines just for free GPRS sake. What if you buy the SIM today and MTN announces an official launch and tariffs tomorrow morning?
