Ultra should definitely not become a tablet line. It SHOULD compete with the note series. It should become smaller, 5.9". It should be thicker with a much bigger battery, and have good input software with apps for productivity.

Noooo, don't go smaller screen on the Ultra
If it was inevitable then I guess not below 6 inches, then it should still be okay.

I for one love that big a*s screen it has, really enjoy-ing watching episodes and playing games on it.
As for the camera update, I'd be pleased if they at least port the Xperia Z camera to it, with the flash ofc, so I can forgive them on the compromise for having an ultra = worse camera because maybe...the successor will be a very slim device too???

Haha, I agree. I love the Z Ultra's screen size so much. I did some calculations the other day, and if Sony can reduce the upper and lower bezels on the Z Ultra to be the same size as on the Z2, they could fit a 6.7" display in the same footprint (assuming it would fit in the same width)!

I think reducing the screen size would be pretty pointless. Hell, the Z2's display is almost as big as a Note 2. No need for a separate Note competitor, in my opinion. With the Compact, Z, and ZU lines, they have 4.x," 5.x," and 6.x" sizes covered. That's PLENTY of choice, in my opinion, far more than any other manufacturer gives you when you consider that smaller screen sizes are gimped and even the Galaxy S line plays second fiddle to the Notes these days. Sony needn't match their competitors screen sizes exactly.

To step down the Ultra's size would be to step down the Ultra, no?

They'd have to call it Xperia Z3 Less Than Ultra for having a screen size less than Ultra's.

honestly if it wasn't for sense, I would probably get a htc, I feel it's built much better than the S5.

If sony decides to address the complaints on the ultra, then either it will remain same size, but be thicker for a flash to fit in it, and perhaps add a built in stylus or they will shrink the screen size to 6 inches, thicken it to add flash and integrate a wacom pen, but at this moment it is anyone's guess what sony will decide.

I have no research to back this up, but I feel like most complaints about the Ultra's size come from people who hate big phones and wouldn't have bought it anyway. I have a hunch that even if they dropped the display size to 6.0," they wouldn't appreciably increase sales.

One thing I've been please about with Sony is the way they seem to have answered all the criticisms in the Z and Z1, and answered them with the Z2, very impressed with the way they have done this.

If they can do the same with the next incarnation of the Z Ultra then it will turn out to be one hell of a device.

Dislike absolutely massive phones but are happy with the size of the note 3. I didn't initially know it, but the ultra was Sony's competitor to the note 3. Without any productivity features? Crazy.

I said earlier, well, a long time ago I guess, that the ultra line can remain, but there should also be a 'Max' or whatever line. This could compete with the note. Even the size of the current ultra would be excusable if it meant an absolutely massive battery and relatively productive.

They marketed the Ultra as Big Screen, Big Entertainment, I guess it was their take on the big screen phones market.

So naturally, the productivity side took the backseat, it HAD the special anything works touchscreen feature (now it seems even the Z1 has it) but that is not productive by any means.
For me it works as marketed, it's a beautiful and effective entertainment MACHINE aaaand a conversation starter wherever I go and "pull it out"

Even i hope they don't shrink the screen size!Reduce the bezel but not the screen & make the HW as good as the Z2!if it had a LED flash i would have bought by now..now waiting to get the Z2 .

yeah, so no leaks, no nothing? last year we knew some details about Z Ultra kind of long before it's announcement

just wish it retains the screen size/slimness and adds an LED flash.
I know...there is a probability that the ZU was just an "experimental" release and seeing it not having stellar sales could make SONY drop it

Yeah, Jakarta isn't really where you'd expect them to announce anything. I mean, it's not a trade show is it? It's probably just a local display of their newest products in Indonesia and a chance for a hands-on.

in case the next sony flagship is going to have fingerprint scanner they should find a better way to implement it then apple and samsung did, this is bad example from apple - scanner is dead after a small scratch with a knife in iphone 5s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-3c1NYF8Gw
galaxy s5 looks even worse from hands on videos.
