I hear NCC has ordered the PTOs and other CMDA operators to issue sim like cards for their lines but I don't know what deadline they set.

@egunje; I doubt if that is possible. Copied this from...Techtarget Expert Answer Center:
"The GSM air interface standard, which uses SIM cards, was designed so that your phone number and other information that identifies you as you -- could be easily transferred from one phone to another by simply transferring the card. The CDMA standard was not designed so that your identity would be that mobile. CDMA "hardwires" your identity into the components of the phone so that, among many other reasons, wireless operators hold more control over their customers and the mobile phones they use." |

brym! is right (unless some improvements have been made technology-wise since the last time I checked).
Its this inflexibiliy of CDMA that will keep me (and many others I know) a GSM subscriber.

Hi everyone, I've been kept off the forum the past four days by glo.I keep getting the message "communication error, check your settings or contact your service provider" Does anyone else encounter this problem, or is there something wrong with my settings? I also notice that while this problem persists, I can't send or download mms.
@Aya: I'm aware that intercellular allows you to acquire cdma hansets from outside, but charges you a fee for configuration. If you have a friend who works there he could do it for free. |

@amby: Yes; Intercellular allows that. Unfortunately, Intercellular has no mobile data service, to the best of my knowlege. Again, Intercellular is not on my list of favoured CDMA networks
Your problem with Glo - is it only when you try to access Esato? Has anyone tampered with your settings? Does this error occur when you are outside your primary location? Answering all 3 will help me give you tips.

@Aya: Now that you ask, it just occured to me that I encounter this problem, mostly at home. I was able to log onto esato, and check my mails on yahoo today while I was at surulere, but now that I am at home(Gbagada), I'm experiencing the same problems again. I'm posting this reply via my desktop pc.
No one has tampered with my settings. |

@amby: When you have a scenario in which GPRS fails at only one location, then its a localised issue.
What to do is restart your phone to see if it still does not work.
If it does not, call Glo customer care and tell them that GPRS at that specific location is not working. Explain that you are able to use it elsewhere.
@all you guys who have missed my diary at GoSmartMobile, its back!

Guys, first of all I am sure that not only is it technically possible to have sim like cards on CMDA, it is currently being used in South Korea.
Secondly, like I said earlier NCC ordered the PTO to switch. The only thing I am not sure about is the deadline.
Thirdly, I brought this same topic up with one of Retel's engineering team who confirmed the first two points.
@amby: I live in Gbagada and have had no problems. As aya says try rebooting.

@egunje: I guess that means the CDMA technology has been improved on. Those Asians - trust them to always device ways to stay a step ahead of the rest of the world.
But you have to give it to the Japanese and Koreans; they are brilliant!

I have tried MTN GPRS twice today without success. i get the GPRS icon on my display but it does not connect.
Its either GPRS has not been activated on my cell, or the fact that I have only N14 on my line is a hindrance.
