Dups
I havent read much about 8ta yet, it is great to have another competitor though, so we now have 5 networks dont we? Or did Virgin eventualy pull out? Havent seen much of them lately, im going to check 8ta out for sure though. Our networks realy have to get with the times, Vodacom i see were offering the X10mini with 30mb free data, i was like WTF? Do they even have a clue of how much data an Android can go through in a month? I feel sorry for many people here who are pushed to get a Desire, Galaxy-S or X10, who havent a clue about Android as they are in for a suprise in terms of data use when they get their monthly bill as these phones dont come with data bundles in contract unlike in the US or UK, yet they chow data like there's no tomorrow, our networks realy need to jack up.

You're so right Tsepz!

We are being ripped off at every turn! I was hoping since Vodafone is now the major shareholder in Vodacom they would bring us closer to the UK with much better rates.

Virgin is still around but I don't regard them as a real mobile network. They are too much of a virtual one to be taken seriously.

I'm really hoping 8ta shakes up the post-paid market so that we could benefit from Vodacom. I know quite a few people who hate Telkom because of the issues they've had with them but I'm waiting to see what they have to offer with 8ta. If they have good post-paid rates then one of my contracts goes to them.

I love Vodacom mainly for its wonderful coverage but if 8ta offers me something great then they will lose one of my contracts that's for sure.

lol, so Is virgin still around in SA? It didn't quite materialise...
I'm hating Vodacom so much right now, I'd load airtime and receive a message from them saying I can call for free after midnight. So I did that and my airtime still finished, on top of that, it was about "90%" off call discount...

Tsepz
Hard luck bro, but then again, you screen is not cracked so it's all good.

When the 2.1 update does eventually roll out what are the chances that we can go into a Vodacare and ask a technician to update it for us.Wont they have the new software available from Sony Ericsson so we dont have to wait that extra couple of weeks or month? Chances are slim hey?

I hope so to, our networks need to be kept on their toes, we need the network version of Apple that iPhone realy has the rest of the manufacturers shaken up.
Gola
Dam,did you call them and complain? Although i must say their call center peeps arent very helpful...
Hobbs
Ya i think the chances of that are very slim, but it i wouldn't write it off, maybe il walk in to Vodacare fourways sometime during the holidays and try find out, but i wont put my hopes up, i remember a few years ago i asked the guys who deal with upgrades about the Nokia N93i, and they looked at me like i was talking a foreign language, my confidence in them is zero, especialy how they botched up a repair on my W900.

Taken from GSMArena today:

'Apple sells 14.1M iPhones, scores another record-breaking quarter
19 October, 2010

Oh, boy, is this a good time to be an Apple shareholder or what! The company has just published its financial report for the quarter ending in September and things just couldn't be better. The company posted revenue of 20.34 billion US dollars, of which 4.31 billion were net profit.

Not only are those the best results ever achieved by Apple, they are also immensely better than the one for the same period last year. In Q3 of 2009 the numbers stood at 12.21 billion and 2.53 billion dollars respectively.

The main driving force behind this spectacular success is the iPhone 4, which generated more than 14.1 million sales (a 91 percent year-on-year growth). In other words, they've almost doubled their iPhone sales. Now Apple has a worldwide market share of over 5.5 percent, which is really something considering the average selling price of 629 dollars. Plus, shortages have been plaguing the iPhone 4 ever since it was launched.

In fact Apple has just surpassed Sony Ericsson figures in terms of sheer number of units sold and depending on the LG, Motorola and RIM results, Apple might has just secured itself a place in the world's Top 5 mobile phone manufacturers.

The other Apple products did impressively over the past three months too (save for the iPods that recorded an 11 percent decline in sales). A total of 3.89 million Macs were shipped, a 27 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter, but the real success story is the iPad, which sold in 4.19 million units. Yep, Apple has sold more iPads than Macs.

In his speech at the Apple's earning's call, Steve Jobs confirmed that a 7-inch iPad isn't in the works as the company doesn't believe that a screen that small would be enough for high-quality apps to be created. So a direct battle between Samsung and Apple won't happen until early next year, when the Koreans will, presumably, launch their 10-inch slate.

In the Q&A session following the official presentation, Peter Oppenheimer, the Apple's CFO, shared that the free-bumper program has so far cost them "just over 100 million [USD]".'

Apple are ballin' out of control!
and the cherry on top for Apple SA is that the iPhone4 is now available on MTN, can you imagine how many more will be sold here? and around the globe as many of the exclusivities come to an end? In the USA AFAIK the AT&T deal is almost over, there is rumour of a CDMA iP4 for Verizon i read somewhere, this is just beginning it seems.

Gotta hand it to Apple, they know how to market a product. It also helps to have a very strong brand image. I have said it before and I will say it again, the Iphone 4 is the closest to the kind of Iphone I would buy. I may just be tempted by the fifth iteration if it is EXTREMELY good. One thing I'm concerned about is their weak signal strength. If they can match the three leaders- Nokia, Motorola and SE- then I will buy their next Iphone. I may, however, buy it regardless if it ticks all the right boxes.

Indeed, the iP4 is very close to being a complete smartphone, the 5 im sure will attract loads of power users such as us lol, i wont get it because it will be far too expensive even if i do the finance thing i can see it demanding over an extra R250pm on my TopUp500. Next year is going to be very interesting with WP7, iOS5, Android3.x , Meego, Symbia^3, BBOS6 and WebOS2 battling it out, all of them with the exception of WP7 and Meego, are mature.
Hobbs
I'll check it out on Youtube, she hasnt tried FaceTime yet as she doesnt know anyone else with a iP4 at the moment.
I found a sweet app for us SA Android users in the Market app, i was after a DSTV Guide app as i tend to forget even my favourite shows, and i found an app called MiGuide, its symbol is a red tv with the SA Flag in it lol. When you 1st start it up it has a list of the majority of available channels (i dont remember seeing Vuzu or Trace), what you do is you go down the list and tap on each channel you like, each one will be highlighted in green, after that you must click the Menu button on your X10 (the one with 4squares), then click Done, it will load a page with all the channels you selected on the left and on the right next to each will show what shows are playing in the next hour, you can click on each channel and it will show what shows are playing for the rest of the day with details of each show, there's even a Calender for the next 7days of each channel. Here are some screenshots of mine:
After i selected the channels i view the most,the 1st 7:

Whats showing on Ignition today:

Whats showing on Sunday from mid-nite:

Do you mean debrand? I'd also like to know, as i have a feeling Voda will be late with the X10's 2.1 update.
