This has been my understanding too. Surely SM has manufacturing facilities still in Japan.

So why would they have 2 factories all this time just for flagships if midranges are not "their " phones?

They for almost all SONY product, not just phone. The most advance product will be produced in Japan, the rest will be in Thai |

Basically, the crap phones are ODM. Anyway, the grey Xperia 1 looks amazing in real life. I saw something that might be the Compact, I really hope it gets high end internals because it looks pretty feasible as a 'smaller' device. |

So all Xa and the new 10/10+ are ODM? And they ask $350/430 for that. Wow.
How did they loose that much money then? It's not like they made tons of phones every year. The flagships must have really crappy sales. Man the face palm is real with this thing.
The grey 1 looked so uninspiring on official images but real life ones look like they have some bluish hue.
Was that phone 21:9 @badassmam? |

I agree ... At first you may think gray is awful. Photos seems to be very dark gray.
Then I watched few hands-on and gray was used.
It looks incredible. Still I think white is the best.
I dont like the purple.

@Ppl
It was a tall looking device but you would need to put it next to something like an iPhone X to get an understanding of the size, I would say that people used to the XZ1 Compact would not consider this as small and even myself who uses an XZ2 Compact but, it looks quite narrow. |

Looked like the Xperia 10, television remote.
JDI supplying to Apple means money for them and they will grow as a result, hope Sony use their display as well. |

My predictions for 2020 Xperia Foxconn lineup
Xperia 1 successor = Full HD 8 bit screen from BOE , all cameras Isocell, SAR 1.45, usb c 2.0, gorilla 4 or 5 on front, metal back, 3800mAh battery that after 18 months has only 2500, no more stereo speakers, selfie pop up or hole, no IP68/65, slowest screen FPS possible
Xperia 2 successor: same of 1 successor but smaller screen and less battery
Xperia 10 successor = notched 19:9 LCD from local supplier that we have never heard before, micro usb, gorilla 3 on front, no NFC, all cams Isocell, rear FPS, metal back, SD660, 3100 mAh that after 18 months are 2000, no 4K recording
Xperia 10+ successor = same of 10 successor with more 1.2 in for screen and 400 mAh
L4 : notched 19:9 lcd, micro usb, gorilla 3, no nfc, rear FPS
Some ppl here seem happy, let's see how long it lasts when Xperia becomes generic like Lenovo did to Motorola.
If Nokia was still doing phones, they would never do the same HMD is doing.
