@Humble and Pierke
I agree with the both of you. Honestly, the Xperia X1 has lost its shine already. It's been too long coming and the competition is not sleeping waiting for SE to release this phone. You pointed out the Motorola "alexander", their last stand as it is referred to these days, and the Android which look more appealing than the X1 even before announcement.
I'm getting the X1 mainly because I'm waiting for the Symbian foundation. So, I'll be playing around with it till 2010 but if any manufacturer announces something worth my while before this one is out I'm dumping the X1 without giving it a second thought.
Funny how SE announces a great product and release it late thereby letting the competition take advantage of the situation. Sad.

Yeah, same here. It really pisses me off that it takes almost a whole year to bring out this phone.
I really want to get it but if it'll come out in january or even worse february I might just get the diamond pro. I bet X1 will be overpriced too. Oh well, thats just typical for se to announce a nice product and release it after nobody wants it anymore... |

SE need to release this devices soon rather than later. Even if it has a few teething problems in the OS, Field testing is the way forward.
No doubt the form factor and look of this device is beautiful, but many companies will follow suit, with large hi-res screens, The Blackberry Thunder is another one to look out for with haptic screen feedback.
Xperia longevity technologically speaking in a day when devices I mention (all supporting either 720p or 1080p encode/decode upto 30fps h264) is short,
SE my advice to you is release the device "Next month" get your revenue, I know its been a bad year financially, Make your money quick then work on a iteration on the Xperia line with next gen platform U500 for example.
Then incorporate either the new UIQ, Symbian or WM7
Because if you dont you will make a big loss, Yes I agree Promotion does keep the public aware but late releases will dent the confidence and will only make us move onto the next gen, and we are aproaching Q3/Q4 doesnt time fly,
XPeria you are losing your appeal to me unfortunately.
I waited religiously, Now that I've heard it going to be released nearer November, I think it may not be has successful has you first envisaged, Because one important thing is, If the Open Source O.S (OSOS) i.e. Android/Google phone is released not the msm7200a varaint i mean next gen, then the price of these phones will be around 250 dollars (dirt cheap)
with much higher specs, I envisage SVGA lcd just around the corner to,
oh btw they are out!!!
some may still get the xperia because of SE marketing ploy (still has remnants of appeal from a time when indeed it was cutting edge) but now hmmm we have to see what the future holds. |

I have to say, when the Xperia was originally announced, it had some appeal to me as an upgrade to the Tytn II, but as time moves on I've found myself less and less interested in it. Coming from the Tytn II, it really is only a small upgrade - a better screen, slightly smaller form factor, and that's it - while the way it's being pushed as a "premium device" indicates a high price tag that simply isn't warranted. My Tytn II, awesome as it was and still is, was only a £50 upgrade through Vodafone to their branded version; they're almost certain to release the Touch Pro in the same way as it's natural successor, at which point the idea of paying £££'s more just for the Sony Ericsson name on a virtually identically device will be, well, laughable.
Even the Touch Pro will have a hard time getting my money this year, since that too is only a small upgrade to the Tytn II, and will also be out of date soon as the various new platforms are released.
For me, when my contract is up in Oct/Nov, it's increasingly between either an Iphone 3G, or waiting for a while longer.
Sony Ericsson, for the second year in a row, will not be getting any custom from me.

Hi all,
Sorry to have to point out this and whilst i know a lot of you don't won't to believe Eldar about anything he says this is some of what he has posted @se-nse
"X1 will be on selected markets in December - 700-800 Euro. Internally SE discussed that stable version of software will be roll out not untill Feb or even later."
This and more of what he has said about SE not just the X1 can be found here
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=31439.
Which if accurate is a total disaster for the X1 and if they release it with a work in progress firmware they really will be finished as users just will not accept this behavior yet again on a premium product IMO.
Marc

Isn't it strange that SE's held off and not revealed how much the phone will cost? One thing they will have a problem with is when all of the competing devices are announced/released with price tags attached. I mean, why should I pay more for the X1 when for a better product I can pay similar or less? I get this feeling that they are waiting to see the price strategies of other competing manufacturers are. They are going to be forced to bring the price down particularly when you consider that there are so many WM devices out there.
Right now, in terms of pricing, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place or they'll sell a 100 X1s.

@Dogmann
I read that yesterday and I have a feeling it is true. Besides, SE has to screw up each year with their flagship (even if it is in different series). After the P990i it was the K850i and now it looks like it's the turn of the X1, that's if the C905 doesn't beat it to it.
Honestly, I like the phone albeit the OS and am still on track to getting if the price is right and it is stable enough. I guess I'll have to wait and see but right now it looks bad.

Well with what SE is doing now, i can't really say that i will still go with X1.When it is announced, all the mobile companies are already preparing to beat this phone and making it sure they can released their own product before X1 comes out. With the P990i,working with UIQ and SE took them for how many months. Now with HTC, SE and WM, will it be the same?? |

How can there be so many firmware problems, the hardware is from htc and the software from wm, which has been put together properly for years.
But if its X panels then Se dump the X panels if its too much for you!! |

You have to love they have not even managed to get the X1 into shops yet and they are already bragging that according to Tech Radar they will be expanding the Xperia range! Do us ALL a favour deliver what you promise before you go on blabbing about what you will be doing no wonder your net profit is down 97%!!!!
Unless you start building these things to a standard that matches the prices you charge, you will be losing one more customer.
I do NOT want to spend anymore Saturday afternoons reinforcing the backs of phones YOU should do that at the factory or better still make them of non flex metal!!!!!!
Anyway here is the info off tech radar
"Sony Ericsson could be preparing to release more in its high-end Xperia device range, according to a release from Swiss company Esmertec.
"Sony Ericsson has selected Esmertec's Jbed Java Multitasking Virtual Machine to power its revolutionary multimedia Xperia mobile phone range," reads a statement on the site.
This shows the X1 device will just be the first of many from SE when released in September".

Nitro_fan lol that made me chuckle, I remeber the days of the k750i, Now that was a Phone.
97% OMG thats diabolical, Is their something they aren't telling us,
Its does seem the Xperia line is heading toward the title "DOOMED"
I saw this coming, That why I was reserved in my assessment of this device, and concentrated on next gen, Which were literally around the corner, I still do like the design of this phone dont get me wrong, But luck isnt on the side of SE, All members on here should close there eyes and say alittle prayer for SE,
"Please Lord Lead them not into damnation"

I have a Q
Is the 7201a chipset only available in tha X1i or only in the X1a?
Peace |

X1i i beleive has the MSM7200A and X1a the MSM7201A.
I wonder if the European variant of the Touch pro will have the MSM7200A.
Either way I am not too concerned.
As far from what I have seen even with the latest roms, the Touch Diamond is sluggish, even with 1.93 rom Ive tried it and Im not impressed,
The Iphone 3g is super fast in opening apps,
as far as I understand Opengl ES 1.0 utilisation is very good,
Oh I bet Alexanders' Nvidia chipset will implement Opengl ES2.0 |
