I don't think Sony Mobile will become chinese ODM + brand manufacture like Wileyfox, InFocus, Wiko.
It could be like HMD Global(Nokia). FIH Mobile(Foxconn) develop actual phone incl SW, HMD Global only providing Nokia brand and exterior design.
Sony's case : Foxconn will take hardware design, Sony only take care of SW.

ODM Xperia? Who's gonna buy that?
Someone else designing and developing main internals is not why people trust Xperia. They might as well just stop making phones all together.
They can do that for low end but no one will pay 1k for an ODM flagship. |

Gorilla Glass 2 , cheap metal that will lose paint, micro usb, ddr3 ram for L series to keep it below $160
SAR above 1,25 (xz3 has 0.14).
Notched screen, hole screen or iphone design (Foxconn is Taiwan , but of course has tons of interest in chinese costumers)
Batteries will need replacement after 17 months.
No 4K flagship (only FHD)

I think it will be for the better
The camera display and software is still sonys as long as i care
Sony is incompetent when it comes to fitting their phones with the necessary internals.
Just like the 3000 mah joke of a battery in xperia 1... Foxcon can do a better job in this regard which is one of the major downfall of the current gen phones
Also current nokia phones have great build quality if thats the case |

Battery size is an option ... Not being able to put how much they want.
It is called BEING GREEDY ...
Great phones HMD is doing.
Many using old and cheaper parts.
By the way, N9PV no positive review so far ...
This is about the next Sony Premium, not low ends to sell in India where as long the phone costs below $180 nothing else matters.
I do not want screen from BOE, midrange sensors from Samsung, battery from small chinese supplier, older Gorilla glass, high SAR due to lack of proper tests on a phone that costs $1000. Not even on a $250 one.
Soon, when the techsites find out ppl will surely go to their channels and complain.
I'd rather see them quite phones than doing this.

Finally, Sony obviously cannot design good hardware anymore. Look at HMD and Nokia which is a good example of that. The recently announced Nokia x72 looks very good for example. Imagine something like that with a good camera |

My predictions for 2020 Xperia Foxconn lineup 
Xperia 1 successor = Full HD 8 bit screen from BOE , all cameras Isocell, SAR 1.45, usb c 2.0, gorilla 4 or 5 on front, metal back, 3800mAh battery that after 18 months has only 2500, no more stereo speakers, selfie pop up or hole, no IP68/65, slowest screen FPS possible
Xperia 2 successor: same of 1 successor but smaller screen and less battery
Xperia 10 successor = notched 19:9 LCD from local supplier that we have never heard before, micro usb, gorilla 3 on front, no NFC, all cams Isocell, rear FPS, metal back, SD660, 3100 mAh that after 18 months are 2000, no 4K recording
Xperia 10+ successor = same of 10 successor with more 1.2 in for screen and 400 mAh
L4 : notched 19:9 lcd, micro usb, gorilla 3, no nfc, rear FPS
Some ppl here seem happy, let's see how long it lasts when Xperia becomes generic like Lenovo did to Motorola.
If Nokia was still doing phones, they would never do the same HMD is doing.

I mean let's say l3 is ODM. So far we have 3 phones, also rumors about X2 and maayybe 5g phone. It's 5 phones a year. If they can't deliver that they should close with their dignity intact. |

That still different from Chinese brand and Nokia.
Chinese brand treat phone like DIY PC computer. Nokia, which is just a FIN brand Name now, still all controlled by FOXCONN.
Don't we forgot Sharp Aqous? If the rumours is true, xperia will be almost the same. Foxconn do all things, software still done by Sharp ppl. |

1) I do not trust their quality control. Too many stuff being built daily. No wonder the many issues we have seen on iphones in past years.
2) be sure you guys will keep paying more than $800 but lots of stuff will be left behind. I doubt they would keep 4K screen, stacked cmos, Sony batteries etc ....
3) generic design .... no way these phones will come without notch nor hole
Why would they merge mobile with other divisions and few days later do this stupid move? |

my speculation : even if the rumor is true, it won't be generic design. only sony leave internal things in foxconn's hand. and first odm device will be low-end or mid-range device.
they shut down jv china factory and put a lot of money for 100% own thailand factory. flagship won't be ODMed in few years i think. |

According to a poster on a Swedish forum, ALL phones, except flagships, are ODM today at Sony.
