Amen to that! But it's too early to say that. We still have 6 months before 2016. Sony could still pull off a hero product just like what HTC is planning. |

So when does FY 2016 start and end? Q4 of 2015 and Q3 of 2016? |

For Sony Fiscal year ends at end of March each year. April 1st was the start of FY 2015 and it ends on March 31st 2016. |

So if 2015 is the transformation year, we should not expect killer phones. Aside from this, where the hell are the phones leaked in Indonesian POSTEL few weeks ago? Sony should have gone for Z3 Ultra instead of the compact tablet. Now my ultra is old and I have to upgrade but my only option is Note 5.
Sony should clearly state the release cycles for their flagship phones like other OEMs. Phablet and tablet at IFA, flagship and compact at MWC or private event around that period so we'll know what to wait for. Lots of people are on contracts and people won't wait 4-5 months for Sony. Guess that is why carriers don't like them. |

^releasing an ultra around september would be suicide, nobody would care about it. It is the time where Apple and Samsung are releasing their "hero"products.
And people on contracts are buying the newest handset available when extending their contracts. If its ends let say in June and you want an Apple phone you can't wait till September so you have to buy the older available one. From that point of view refreshing your flagship every 6 month isn't that bad of an idea especially for those fast moving markets like japan.

^well Sony needs to steal other OEM customers. Most people make contracts when iphone is released or galaxy s series are released. They are renewing contracts after 12 or 24 months mostly. When you release your phone in june your phone gets outdated in September by new releases. So if you are targeting contract users you have to adjust your release cycle accordingly. Japan is another story. Sony is strong there with no real android competition. So tell me this. Eventhough I am a Sony fan, my contract ends in September and I want a new phone. Which phone should I buy and use it for at least 12 months?

Note5 or Iphone 6s(Plus). And if you are not satisfied sell it. Those 2 devices have high replacement values. Even after a year or two of usage you can sell it for a quite lot of money. |

^That's my point. So when I have to renew my contract I'll have iphone 8 note 7 or whatever. Sony lost me in that situation. |

What a total nonsense.
People renew contracts all year round.
Some want the latest tech. Some prefer 1 year old stuff, just because it's cheaper.
Now let's get back to rumours. Did someone say Z5s in February?

@hihihans
Z5s in february? no. more like "Xperia Y1" or something similar if to judge by the z line naming and the latest rumors. i guess sony like to "start from 0" literally with every new letter series of devices. (0 = no numbering) |

nah, I'm still positive that they stick with Z(x) numbering, at least until there are a year like 2013 again (when the reborn of Sony at it's very top).

That's a freakin' same s*** they said last year and past few years before.. so every year is really 'transformation' years of Sony.. I'm not being a troll or samsung fanboy here, but if they don't release flagship that is a TRUE flagship this year, especially the Z5 Compact.. I promise that i'll get others..
not a great year Sony, a real SONY year was back in 2013.. They raise way way up and fall way way down. If they didn't release the competitor of S6,G4,M9, they'll bankrupt anytime soon (SOMC division). But it looks like that they'll follow apple and be their competitor for this year and now on by release flagship(s) in late years.. But actually, whatever others said I'll stay here to support Sony like I support my own family.
And it doesn't make sense to me that they registered their so called 'flagship' model numbers, but they didn't even announce them yet... I am positive that IFA will bring us more.. but if the flagship is still sucks (on innovation and changes since Z3), I'll wait next year or I'll just get the others..

Actually, Sony has done well with the Z phones and particularly with the Z3 lineup. Sales and reviews reflect that. A lot of short-sighted people with poor memory. They are in a much better position now and its a matter of taking the next step. Z3+ has not worked out well, the 'Z5' lineup will be what determines if Sony make another step up or not. |

@badassmam
True. as far as i remember z3 and z3c sold the most out of all sony devices since sonymobile exist. |

^^ And it could've been even better with SD805 instead of SD801. There would be no need for Z3+ either. |

^^ no s805 is much lesser issue. it could have been much better if they were available much faster after announcement, marketed better and sold in a lot more carriers around the world. people recognize sony mostly from tv, camera, playstation, etc. "sony xperia? oh, you mean that galaxy phone?"
