Beats me. You might want to ask somewhere with a few more sharp users than esato although amnesia seems to have almost every phone on earth worth buying.
I don't want a signature anymore.

@mustafa, that made me laugh so hard.

@arabica, the only way is to install arabic firmware as far as I know. I do not think that it's released in the Middle East though (you hardly see any Sharp phones). BUT if you can find the 'font' file on the phone you could install the appropriate arabic fonts.

Where to find the folder or how to hack the Sharp is unknown to me though.

I'm sorry I couldn't help as much.

Hello again. SE how long should i wait for P990i. i called Sony Showroom, Axiom and Etisilat - no news, when it'll arrive in Saudi Arabia.
Anyone knows when it will be available in the market. Im hesitant to ask somebody in dubai to bring it over next week, as warranty and acquiring support may prove to be difficult if in case it becomes buggy etc.
Can somebody update me when it will be here in the Kingdom.

Dubai will have it on the 2nd of September. Dumb move for to sell it late in the country where most phones comes in first.

Anyways, im having troubles with choosing a phone. I just sold my K800i and am not sure what to get. I can't afford the P990 even after a few months of release and am eyeing 2 units. A second hand M600i and K610i. Tight budget of 1800aed. The 2nd hand M600i cost 1000aed with unnoticeable scratches and just a broken stylus while the k610i goes for 750aed with alot of scratches on the body. Or a nokia n73, n80 or the K800i again.
To sum up its the m600i with k610i, n80(2nd hand), n73 and k800i again. The cheapest would be the k800i. The 2nd hand units or the brand new ones? Comments would be appreciated....Thanks

@chunkylover53

Hi Bro,

The P990i went on sale today 28th Aug. Price is B.D. 295 and as far as I know its sold out already. But, if you're in Bahrain shop around specially with Isa Town and Hamad Town dealers, they might have them.

@Skrue

Always a new phone. This way you can give it a lot of TLC. If I get a single scratch on my phone, it's bye bye to it.

@jalal - hehehehe i agree.

Anyways, after selling my k800 for 1300aed and having a hard time looking for a better replacement, i ended up getting a 9 days old k800(again). It had warranty and was actually better looking than mine. it still felt rough because of the rubber housing unlike mine which was quite used up.
also, i found a rather clean R520m which was sold to me for 30aed ONLY for just the unit and charger. it's actually my 3rd r520m cos i sold the last two i had. i now have 3 classic phones; the t68m(zirrocan gold). t39m and r520m. somehow i just can't let go of these classic phones.

Again, i can't make up my mind in chossing a bluetooth stereo headphone. i can get the hbh-ds970 without warranty for 290aed and 330aed being warrantied(axiom and cellucom sells them for 4++aed). Though i've found the i.tech bluetooth stereo headset blue band for just 199aed or i.tech Clip 2s for 180aed. All 3 supporting a2dp profile. I would like to have the one, but its rather expensive even without warranty. what do you guys think? comments are welcome

@tan, I'd say you'd get it also within the first half of September, I wouldn't really bother getting it from the Emirates, because their warranties almost 100% cover you for the emirates only, plus if there are firmware bugs, you don't need to worry because you will be able to do an update yourself at home via the SE website

@skrue... Noooo I'd have take the M600. (white), it's so hypnotic, but then again the K800 feels nice with it's rubbery texture.

I wouldn't know about advising on headsets, they give me headaches and never fit on my ear properly.

@Skrue,

The best BT headset that I've used have been the Nextlink ones. I don't know if they have a small stereo one but the AX and AX2 that they make now are great and price is reasonable.

Update guys: P990i is finally released here in Dubai. The ones who preordered/reserved will get it for 2795aed and for those who didn't may get it for 3100aed.

Knowing mobile shops here in Dubai, they would eventually add some freebies on their units after 3-4weeks from release. So i bet its not a good time to purchase a P990i now, maybe in a few weeks time, for 3100aed they would bundle it with a bluetooth headset or a 1GB msduo.

@jalal - i still have my trusty little bluespoon ax uptill now. Although, it has been in the box for almost 9 months now. Im actually thinkin of selling it. Thanks for the input.

@amnesia - yep, the rubbery case feels soosoo nice

Thanks Amensia. I have the same thought about the warranty hence i have not asked my friend to bring one from Dubai. perhaps i will wait further - it'll not hurt me to w8 for another 2 weeks as i've waited months already.

Although the internal memory matter bothers me recently. Anyway net surving via wifi will be on rare occassions only. i wish P990i has adapted the enormous internal memory of w950i. Which brings me to think should i just wait for w950i? How long shoudl i wait again....am i ready to forget the cam and wifi. Its funny when most of us wanted to have the features available which we rare use however define our preferences in choosing our new toy/gadget.

Inspite of the unit dimension i have my mind set to P990i already - inspite of the few downside. i always like the idea that Sony always has various stylish and innovative accesories to go with their mobile phones. Im drooling already with the bluetooth headset HBH-DS970. Its business and pleasure in one unit.

i just browsed SE (MENA) website ...the "coming soon" for P990i is alrady removed! I'll cheked the Sony showroom on daily basis now! lol.

Sony Ericsson and Cellucom in distribution pact for Oman, Qatar and Kuwait

Mobile phone giant, Sony Ericsson, has appointed Cellucom, a premier distributor and retailer of mobility products, as one of its distributors of their complete mobile phone range in Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. The partnership focuses on Oman, Qatar and Kuwait as emerging markets with great potential. The agreement reinforces Cellucom’s commitment to providing combined mobility solutions to its consumers.

Arun Nagar, Managing Director, Cellucom, speaking about the new alliance said, “Our strong distribution network combined with our dedication to offering our retailers increased value added services was a key element in Sony Ericsson’s decision to partner with us. The partnership is a valuable addition to our growing portfolio of business partners in the mobile phone industry.”

Commenting on Cellucom’s strong presence across GCC, he further added, “Cellucom, the only one presently with a pan-GCC presence, will continue to deliver high quality sales support to its growing number of retailers and satisfy their demands for new services. We look forward to supporting Sony Ericsson through our well-established distribution network and expert sales staff. I am confident that our combined efforts will help Sony Ericsson gain strong market presence in the region.”

Less than a decade ago, Cellucom was set up as an exporter of leading mobile phone brands, with operations in Dubai and East Africa. Today, the company has evolved to become one of the largest distributors of digital devices and mobility solutions in the Middle East and Africa region.

Husni El-Assi, General Manager, Sony Ericsson, Middle East and North Africa said, “Sony Ericsson was looking for a partner that thoroughly understands the need of the mobile phone market and lives up to the retailer’s expectations. Based on Cellucom’s proven track record and their vital position in the region, they were an obvious choice for us. We look forward to a mutually beneficial business relationship with Cellucom.”

Cellucom will strive for maximum penetration at a micro-level by effective and sustainable distribution in these regions. It will offer competitive prices, provide credit support and supply goods directly to the retailers. This will help maintain stronger relationship with them.

Cellucom is one of the fastest growing companies in the Middle East and a premier partner of mobile communication devices and accessories for leading brands such as Sony Ericsson, Nokia, iMate and Samsung. Cellucom has a strong retail presence across the GCC, covering UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman. The company also has a base in East Africa.

Qatar breaks air blockade on Lebanon, vows to send troops

A Qatar Airways plane landed at Beirut airport on Monday carrying 142 passengers aboard, despite Israel's blockade on Lebanon.

The landing came on the same day that Qatar became the first Arab country to commit soldiers to monitor a cease-fire between Israel and Hizbullah, pledging 200 to 300 troops to a U.N. peacekeeping force.

According to the AP, the Airbus 320 landed at Rafik Hariri International Airport in the first of what the national carrier of Qatar said would be daily flights from Doha to Beirut. Qatar Airways said it had received approval from Lebanese authorities to operate the flights.

Israel has so far refused to lift its air and sea blockade of Lebanon.

Earlier, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani said the contribution of troops was an attempt "to tell the world of the Arab presence, even modestly, in this force and to tell Israel that we believe in this decision and so we want to contribute in implementing it."

The pledge came after Sheikh Hamad held talks with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in Doha.
