Hey Glenn,
None of the Symbian phones can connect to send SMS's via the phone book, if this is your issue. It has to do with the operating system of Symbian and the way it sends the AT commands. Jools, back me up on this. This is one reason why I switched from my P900 to the s700. While I do not send a multitude of SMS's via my Mac, I do like the option to do so.

Yep, as far as I know that's correct.
The P800/900 series phones don't have the required support in the OS for SMS'ing. Seems kinda crazy when 'lesser' phones such as T68, T610, K700 etc. can do it...

Hey Jools,
What do you think of Phone Agent? I have played with it but can not bring myself to pay $29 for it. Have you used it and do you think it is worth the money?

I purchased PhoneAgent almost the day it came out for use with my T610. At the time it was the only way of making themes on a Mac without resorting to Virtual PC. I bought it mainly for that feature (and then never actually got around to making many themes!).
To be honest, after buying it I've hardly used it! It does have ALOT of features and the author has obviously spent a great deal of time on producing a very polished product.
I've used it to back-up SMSs from the phone, but since started using BluePhoneMenu which is free (and since been superceded by BluePhoneElite.
I've also used it to back-up the phone book and notes. I've never used the SMS or MMS writing facilities or the file transfer - the built-in Mac OS functions are fine for me.
So, in all, it is a very good product, but I certainly haven't got my money's worth out of it. I don't regret buying it because the author has always been very helpful and I wanted to support his work, and I guess its my choice not to use it!!

Cheers Fellow Mac-Heads,
Thanks for the input. I am using BluePhoneElite as well and it is more than enough for my needs. I do wish that it could read the phone book to send SMS's however, all in all it is quite good and it is free. Jools, my thoughts exactly about PhoneAgent. It is great, but the truth is, I do not think that I will really get my money's worth. I rarely send many SMS from my computer as the BT is a battery hog and I tend to forget my USB charger cable at home most of the time. By the way Jools, I am waiting for the delivery of the new G4 15 inch PowerBook.

@jespring:
Have a look through this thread "Online update service for Mac users?". For most people the process just stops at about 70% resulting in a dead phone. But one guy (seige) posts instructions on how to do it using the Opera browser not IE. He insists that it has worked for him, but he only posted once and hasn't been seen since!
To be totally sure I'd suggest using a mates PC, but if you decide to try it on a Mac I'd be very interested to hear your results.
In the end I used TOTAL Multiserver on a mates PC to both de-brand and upgrade my O2 K700 to R2AA. Multiserver wouldn't even run on Virtual PC for some reason.

Let me get this straight,
Can I use my K700i with iSync VIA cable?
Or do I have to use bluetooth. |

You have to use Bluetooth. As it says here iSync only supports Bluetooth for SonyEricsson phones.
You can use an RS-232 cable (via a RS-232 to USB adapter) to manually transfer files (ringtones, pictures etc.), using a program such as GSM Remote. But you can't use iSync via a cable with SE phones

BT headsets work on Macs for use with iChat or whatever. Since the BT standard is so "open" it's relatively easy to interconnect these devices, with software being the biggest obstacle. How hard could it be to develop a technology that enables you to use your Mac as a headset? Like in iChat AV when you talk to your screen and the person on the other end hears you. But now, the connection is an actual phone call and uses your Mac's mic and speakers to converse.
Is this coming in Tiger? |

@Paulus,
I am not sure what you mean, but I use my BT headset when I am chatting in iChat or in Skype. Mac Panther supports this now. You just have to have the latest BT upgrade/version on your Mac

@sapporo
I want to use the Mac as a headset for my SE K700i.
The phone supports headsets via BT. Although I don't own a BT headset, reading about other peoples' experiences assures me I can hook one up to my phone and use it to make phone calls.
But imho a headset doesn't seem a very sophisticated device. Certainly, a BT equipped Mac, like my 17" PowerBook, should be able to mimic the function of a headset and thus double as one.
I envision something like this: connect the Mac & phone using Address book by clicking the BT icon. Use AB to dial a number with the phone and use the Macs' mic and speaker for handsfree conversation.
Wouldn't that be great?! |

@Paulus
Got you now. This would be cool, however, I do not think that the Mac will support itself as a handsfree profile. This is what is needed. Have you contacted Apple about this proposal?
Cheers
