I'm pretty sure that there are those of you lot, who seem to be operating outside the confines of reality and common logic. Its pretty hilarious, but also very misleading.
I really don't see the need for a WQHD screen on a smartphone. It would provide negligable improvement in sharpness, while raping battery life horribly and murdering the GPU, which would also lead to poor thermal characteristics and maybe even throttling to prevent the phone from vaporising itself and its unsuspecting owner.
And then maybe Superman would come flying to save our burning asses.
Wow, What an exaggeration !
But, really you have a point there. I am really finding it irritating that instead of talking about the actual facts and figures/rumors. People here are talking about there dream mobiles. While I would like to see a 1080p screen on a 4.3-4.6 inch screen. I don't see the need or purpose for a 2k or 4k screen on such a small screen. Although, my gut feeling says that 2k or 4k mobiles would become a standard for phablets and tablets pretty soon(within a year or two).
As the manufacturing process would become smaller so will the battery consumption. We are at a stage where innovation and unique/new features are becoming a rarity. And Companies do want reach those specifications to attract customers who are already having more than what they actually need. I don't think that those specs would murder future GPU's with smaller manufacturing processes. Also snapdragon 800 is capable to handle 4k videos without any problem. At approximately the same battery usage level as 1k video for snapdragon 400 chipset(snapdragon 800 is much more efficient than 400 or 600 when it comes to battery utilization.
But, whatever the dynamics might be I still think that 4k resolutions would be useless for less than 5inch screens. Even if the chipset might be capable of handling those with ease.
Anyways, these things are just fictitious and my main pupose here is to know and talk about the actual rumors. Posts like 4k video IPS etc really don't have a purpose other than wasting time for the people like us!

The next flagship I suggest to make use of:
1. Display. Yes we need IPS tech on the display. I'll go for a little bit of adding cost just to have a better display for the next flagship.
2. Retain 1080p full HD screens. Going up means more battery hogger.
3. Battery. Up ante the battery for 3200 mAh if they can.
4. Camera Sensor. Retain to 1/2.3" or develop even 1/2" inch for better quality
5. OIS. Yes. We need that Optical Steadyshot for future iteration to avoid video cropping
6. Better BIONZ image processing engine on improvement when it comes to low-light photography
7. Use the Xenon flash now, or develop a xenon flash as an add-on (better to insert it in the earphone plug and sync it with the camera, just like the iBlazr)
8. If no Xenon flash, use Dual LED flash.
9. Maintain its bulkiness. Current Z1's thickness is almost good.
10. Add more mics, or use the HAAC mics just like Nokia's.
11. Retain 1080p video recording, but if they could use pixel binning tech on videos, why not. Just like an ability to record 4K and downsizing to 1080p with no quality changes.
12. Put that goddamn 1080p/60 video recording.
13. H.265. This is the future of video recording (well I know Qualcomm's SoCs are now being developed in this area)
14. Add more video codec for Movies app. Qualcomm SoCs do support almost many video codecs, why does Sony can't allow all.
15. Full Manual camera controls, PASM. I know it is know being developed by Sony and we'll just wait for their bomb to drop)
16. TransferJet tech and make it built-in. Sony made this tech and although some people bashed this as the "IrDA of the future", this tech can utilize transfer speeds faster than WiFi direct.
17. Make use of stereo speakers on the bottom part of the Z1. Current one has only one speaker on the leftmost portion.
18. Infrared for other appliance's control. This may support all Sony gadgets like TV, Stereo, PlayStation, etc.

A NEW prototype of JDI's 5.2 inch FHD 423 ppi WRGB (whitemagic) OLED display: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcC8wWk0wx0
looks amazing! the colors tones look very accurate to me, and very bright and sharp screen, very high ppi for OLED, unlike other OLED displays... and i bet that viewing angles are very wide but said to be in mass production only from april so probably only for a 2015 device.

talking about whitemagic, look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7n14U6I6W8
not the same display, but it shows how WRBG cuts the power consumption in up to 50% in comparison to RBG while the image quality stays the same. they seem to improve in this over what in the xperia p.

Maybe, maybe just my guessing...
In normal OLED, when you want pure white all sub-pixels will work the R, G & B will all work, so If the White magic does have a dedicated white sub-pixel...
So in WhiteMagic, if you want pure white, you only need one sub-pixel to run rather than three sub-pixels in normal R, G & B... that's 77% power reduction just for showing white color per pixel... in normal OLED running White actually consume more power than LCD panels...
So if the White Magic in OLED was a single sub-pixel for white rather than additional sub-pixels then it will reduce the power consumption... then it should consume lower power than LCD in full white...

Who knows, maybe those 5,2 inch OLED screens will end up in 2nd half 2014 flagship model along with fast wireless charging |
