I dunno why Samsung keeps doing this. They don't need to copy the iphone and I don't thing it does well to their image.

I dont think they are, Samsung are the new Nokia of a long time ago, they're flooding the market with many different handsets. Eventually, one of them will resemble a competitors, its bound to happen.

I do think it was intentional though, but put it this way, i prefer how the Galaxy S looks compared to the iPhone.

LG did it aswell with the Arena looked like iphone menu wise. Other companies have copied each other before what's the big deal if it sells & people love it then Samsung won't give a damn. They are selling like hot cakes too the Galaxy. As long as they don't copy the design to the exact then they are not hurting anyone & Samsung can see what's popular & make their own versions. It's called competition

since Galaxy is flavour of the month here, and as I sold my Desire last week, I aquired a Galaxy today to check it out but in the couple of hours I've had to play I'm honestly not seeing anything to sway me one way or the other, apart from the HTC sense on the desire which has always kept me preferring HTC devices since WM, and presumably that is why they put the effort in to make it so good. Indeed that was probably the only reason I had HTC WM devices over alternatives when the O/S is otherwise just the same.

But as usual, I'll give it a week or two but so far, having had the Desire, there's not much that attracts me to the Galaxy apart from the screen. Unfortunately my mentioning of the Desire screen had already been commented on, and virtually ignored, so perhaps there's no real comparison there? we'll see... but so far *yawn*... waiting for the next HTC

I sold my Galaxy I have grown bored of it already too not sure why. The camera is poor aswell battery life is very bad. As for the screen it is stunning & with the best viewing in daylight but it's stretched to 4 inches with 800x480 you can see the pixels alot. The Gadget Show I watched a review of the Desire & they showed the screen very bad in sunlight. Is that so?

battery life on the desire is also an issue... but to be honest, I've never thought that battery technology has kept up with any device technology and its one area that really needs some fast improvements, and soon!

In UK I rarely use phones outdoors so can't comment much on outdoor performance though obviously from comments it is definitly a concern with most devices. If I was back home in Aus where I spend most of my non-work time outside I'd be better placed to judge

roll on fuel cell technology (or, dare I say it... micro-nuclear technology )

edit: btw, with the brevity of most Gadget show reviews I take them with the same grain of salt and distrust that I do of any Stuff and T3 mag "review" that are quite obviously out to simply justify their advertsing money

Try the Galaxy in the garden if you get some sunlight it really is good outside. I think people complain about battery life a bit OTT(even me)but people forget daily we use our phones hammering them with calls, texts, music, internet, gps,wi fi,huge colour screens & they wonder why their battery does not last. But also manufacturers have very true what you say not made higher capacity batteries to cope with all this. I mean what's the highest capacity battery you can fit in a mobile device before it becomes too big? Even a 1,500mAh battery is poor hardly lasting the day & i am an average user I don't hammer my phone over using it.

sorry, but while its "interesting" to try devices in different scenarios it is really only interesting from a "scientific" point of view as I use my almost exclusively indoors.

In the same way that the iPhone 4 reception problem has only ever been an issue for me when atually trying the described "death grip" and similarly, I compared the iphone 4 with the Desire on the odd occasion I was using both outdoors and did not perceive a real difference although perhaps the Desire did have a small advantage (so much for super-amoled!).

though really... its not a question of battery size to fit a device... Its more a question of improving the actual battery technology itself so that far greater capacities can fit todays size devices. Lithium Ion technology is already decades old and its really time for something new with months endurance rather than days, though as I have *always* said... battery life is not an issue as long as it lasts from the moment I remove my device from the charger in the morning until the moment I get home in the evening and plug it back in

True I always charge daily anyway. Sony Ericsson with their lithium Polymer batteries always seem to be very good when it comes to battery life. Anyway it should be you saying this we are off topic EDIT: There is a You Tube video of someone doing the DEATH GRIP with the Galaxy

well.. fortunately its me who is the moderator and I can't see that in a Galaxy discussion, comparing Galaxy battery life or briefly diversifying (while in context) to battery technology in general is off topic.

but if we are to get back to a more pure on-topic discussion... having missed out by a week getting froyo on my Desire, is there a more realistic date for Galaxy than "September" as I'd hate to miss out again (unless another HTC device is announced an becomes available sooner)
