i think it there to stop the handset from exploding if there too much pressure in the battery, it must let air out but not in, like normal battery have a hole.

The gsmarena review was a good read.

What strikes me above all else is that this phone is roughly just 1mm thicker than the W880i and yet still packs in a 5.0MP cam with AF and flash. Thats just briliant IMO and its looking more attractive to me.

The review also indicated a real K850i replacement later on this year (possibly announced before Q3) so its a case of deciding which to go for.

The new Main menu also looks great.

Yeah the menu was pretty cool. I think there's much more flexibility with A200 platform than the existing one - Sony Ericsson can finally add more features and transitions =)

I wouldn't complain about the image quality considering it's from such a thin phone (for 5 mp)

And for that metal thing, I'm guessing it would be a keychain holder.

Hopefully GSMArena will review the C702 next =) I'm also wanting Mobile-Review to review the new phones =D

I'm hoping the imaging quality of the C902 is at least a slight improvement on the K850i, there has to be some progress after all, although I'm not expecting it to be mind-blowing from such a thin case.

RE, the metal thing on the back of the C702, I assumed it was there just to assist in opening the battery cover. With it being splash and dust resistant I would expect it to be quite a tight fit.

I'm still amazed managed to incorporate Face Detection, Autofocus, Photoflash, BestPic...

The only thing that worries me is that they've included lots of clever software features to distract people from the fact that the sensor is weak.

The K850i images aren't great (fine at 50% when resized, but at 100% they can't compete with ANY competition, whether a digital camera or another cameraphone). The C902 is the same, possibly worse, although we will have to use the usual "It's only prototype" disclaimer until the final model ships.

The thing is, I've yet to see a phone - from any manufacturer - that improves on things that are fundamentally down to hardware from prototype to final (and by this I mean the protos they show the press or public). Software and firmware can be fixed, but you can only attempt to improve these photos by filtering and other image processing that can never beat an image that is good in the first place!

Don't get me wrong; this phone will do extremely well - especially as the images are perfectly sufficient for what they'll be mostly used for; viewing on a PC (or TV) or uploading to Facebook and the like.

I believe a greatly enhanced cameraphone, with optical zoom and a proper sensor, will be released in due course. Personally, I think the larger form factor of the K850i lends itself better to photography than something very thin. When you hold the C902 in your hand, you'll know what I mean (it feels like it's going to slip out of your fingers!).

I think SE needs to give people the choice, as some people will obviously find the small size more important and accept the compromises.

That's called clever marketing. Of course, for more knowledgeable users like yourself, you would be able to see through this marketing scheme. But for the average user, this "feature" is amazing and would probably get them to buy the phone.

i have one small doubt:
why haven't they incorporated a xenon flash for a high end model like c902 instead preferred a photo light flash?

Xenon flash takes a long time to recharge, cannot be used during recording of videos, uses a lot of battery, and it's much smaller.

Sony Ericsson claims Photo flash as the next technology. It's currently used on the SO905CS.

the camera on the c702 will never out perform the k800i's camera the c702 has a smaller focal length, the photos won't get much better from the prototype ,se will probley add some strong noise reduction to the firmware to remove the noise.
the camera on the c902 will never out perform the k850i again it has a smaller focal length and if you look at the pics from the prototype you can see there heavly post-processed to remove noise so nearly all the details are lost like the n95 it looks more like vga than 5mp. the reason the xenon flash was scrapped is because se would never fit it a phone that slim the xenon needs alot of space thats why the k800 & k850 are bricks.

The K800i is a great phone, takes great pictures and does a lot more besides.

I don't think any cameraphone pics, when examined close up, are perfect. Its only to be expected. But when resized there can be great results.

I think the extra C902 features like the screen shortcuts and face recognition etc, make a difference too.

C702 pic quality is good enough IMO, but i expected more from a 'Cyber-Shot' branded phone.

one important thing (for me) is that C702 has the ability to accept post processing.
