Got an e-mail from SE support about the update problem, says it's fixed and indeed it appears to be working properly now. Actually updating my phone even though it states that I've got the latest revision anyway - O2 version I guess.

Which one would be UK firmware ?

Generic World 1 or Generic World 2 ?

Don't think there is that much difference but the SIM free m600 and p910 i had were both world generic 2 and i'm from the UK.

just got a branded p1i from 02 so will be debranding soon - just want to make sure the phone isn't faulty first.

Please let us know how the debranding goes - i'm sure there will be lots of us with o2 handsets wanting reassurance

I've not got around to doing it just yet as I wanted to find out which firmware is the correct one first.
I've read through Davinci and it looks straightforward enough to do the debrand so I think I'll give it a try with Generic World 2 firmware.

Will let you know how it goes

Have just finished using Davinci on my O2 branded P1i. Opted for Generic World 1 firmware in the end.
Unplugged the DCU-65 and the phone started up with the original startup screen instead of the O2 one
Next it came up with a screen to select the language. Top one is UK English so I would certainly say that the UK generic firmware is Generic World 1.

Phone is still booting up atm. Still got to put my sim card and memory card back in yet.

Whole process took:

5 minutes for the Davinci client to download the files. Then had to unplug the phone and shut down the Davinci client and restart it.

1 hour 16 minutes to flash the phone with the Generic world 1 firmware.

A total of 1 hour 21 minutes to flash the phone.

Will report back if I get any problems after restoring my backup onto the phone.

EDIT
Still not put sim back in. Let the phone boot up and checked the software via the service menu. Was the same as before except it was unbranded the CDA changed to Generic World 1. Everything else was the same except there was no Bluetooth software version showing.
I'm hoping that the bluetooth software will load up after I've put the sim back in.

Have shut the phone down and removed/inserted the battery. Loaded up SEUS and check for an update. The phone was recognised as World 1 and is currently downloading updated software

All O2 branded P1i users. Looks like this works for us as well. So far so good

Got my O2 P1i yesterday, immediately flashed it on Davinci to GW1 then ran SEUS.

No problems found, ran backup fine. Great phone.

If you go for the GW1 firmware (and then up to R6E30) does the VOIP client appear?

Or more likely have I not bothered looking at the CD that came with the phone where the VOIP client is likely to be lurking?

Just wondered as I've hunted high and low on the phone and can see any sign of this.

Also, does the PC suite save all your network (and other) settings such O2 WAP/Mobile web connections, messaging service number, etc? Or are these things held on the SIM anyway?

In short, having debranded a phone what is needed to get the O2 connection working again?

Is any of this risky to do while away from the UK? Will any roaming be affected by debranding the phone? Or again, is all of the important information held on the SIM?

@ Andy: Haven't seen the voip stuff on the phone but I've not had much time to play with it.

The settings for O2 Wap and MMS will be downloaded as soon as you start the phone for the first time.

As only me has said above. After starting you phone up from debranding. It will go into the setup and download opetator settings for internet and media messaging.

Only thing that's missing from mine is the O2 Mobileweb account. Never actually used that account anyway so it doesnt bother me.

Anyway. Am off to restore my backup as I was too tired at 5:30am ans was falling asleep (Had been up for over 48 hours )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can 'waste' hours/days/weeks on getting gadgets to work ... or more accurately getting them to work again lol

Hmmm, sounds like I might be tempted to try this route if my phone doesn't play nicely with WLAN while I'm away from the home router.

happy to report another successful davinci debrand.

Have to say i was pretty happy with the o2 fw - not too much tinkering - and very stable, but now i am able to upgrade with SEUS.

All they have to do now is get rid of that green tint...

Thanks for the update Rookwise. I will go the davinci route then. I avoided putting loads of programs on the phone until I update.

No prob

The backup also completed sucessfully. All settings, internet accounts, bookmarks etc restored completly so everything that was on the phone before debranding is back on apart from the O2 stuff

Only thing I have noticed so far is that the signal strength is weak where I am wheras before debranding the P1. I had a strong signal.

Oh. The other thing I had to do was repair the bluetooth accessories to the P1. They were restored with the backup but wouldn't work. Ended up deleting them and repairing.
