I received a new 3G SIM with my handset so I loaded the contacts from my old SIM onto the P1i. I checked the list and everything was alphabetical, ie in the correct order. I then put the new SIM in my phone and copied the contacts across (mark all/add to SIM) - they are in a jumbled up mess on my new SIM though! The phone has not sent them across in the correct manner. It will take me ages to edit them. I have deleted and retried three times but each time the same result.

you really need to sync contacts to be on the safe side.. all phones have different sim reading/contact setups...

Masseur,

thanks for the feedback.

1) Well, that's pretty lame. So they've consciously chosen to do this on all SE/UIQ phones, when other SE phones and other UIQ phones behave differently? Guess I'm going to need to buy an alarm clock!

2) I've tried this morning to replicate the text message "feature" and I couldn't. It has happened to me at least 3 times though, which is weird. If I can, I'll grab a screenshot next time. I've clearly seen it say something like "70/2".

Yes and the reason for this is that u are using special characters in your sms.

You are Italian I guess ?
Try to replace your special letters (with accent) with normal letters, e.g. é with e.

I switched my phone off last night intending to charge it as I slept. On plugging the charger in the phone switched on! So I had to put it in flight mode and leave it on. Can it not be charged whilst switched off??

when I charge my P1 when off, the backlight lights up but does not switch on. This is the same behaviour as my M600

were you using the USB cable to charge from PC or the standard wall charger?

just tested this again but it definitly does not switch on.

try pulling the battery out for a fweseconds, then reinserting and then plugging the charger in while off and see if that sorts the problem

I did plug the charger in whilst it was turned on (the charger) - would this have anything to do with it? This hasn't affected things on previous phones.

I just tried that and still the phone does not come on. As always it goes through some of the start sequence and you see the progress bar but it nevers gets as far as asking for phone or flight mode. The backlight simply goes dim (but not off).

I also tried pluggnig the charger in while the phone was still on and then powering off and the same behaviour described above was observed

@sunking

I don't have a P1 and therefore can't check it, but could this be a bug with the flight mode setting, causing your phone to go straight to phone mode instead of stopping at the dim screen ?

Is yours switched off ?

Just an idea... [addsig]

Myth,

actually despite the name, I'm English and I wasn't using any special characters that I am aware of. Its not something that happens every time, and it seems to happen more often when I am replying to a message rather than creating one from scratch.

I'm not sure if this has been covered elsewhere but does anybody else notice that the P1i has poor reception on 3G? I normally get 5 bars in my house on all Nokia phones but with the P1i I am getting 2 bars.

@cfrancolini

Ok, but if starting with the 71st character it counts 2 sms (71/2) there 'must' be a non-standard character in your message, which is more than 7-bit. This could be a letter or any other special character... [addsig]

@myth,

sorry to confuse - that was just an example. 70 isn't a magic number. Most of the time (actually, almost all of the time) it correctly increments the number of text messages at 160 characters. Occasionally, once it does this, I have noticed that deleting characters doesn't cause the total number of text messages to be reduced. I hope this makes more sense!
