Plus to be honest although i really do like the designs of the new devices they are all really way behind in the tech they have and just don't excite me the way they used to. Those of you that are happy to stay with SE are welcome to just not for me anymore.

Probably. But if Nokia gives TS+qwerty smart phone, with planty of memory (as in P1), pack it in a beautifull small design (but with a big screen - E91 design is ugly for my taste and N95 is not bad) than why wouldnt one consider it. Wouldnt everyone like for example P2 with gps, 640x480 video recording, answering machine-call recording, better processor, skype (P1 is still struggling with it) etc. Lets see what SE is preparing for the next year. I hope something amazing because P series is my true love.

@mweb6161
I don't unfortunately have any insider information or positive confirmation but have seen quite a few posts around from others that are better informed than me. Obviously as soon as i have anything concrete i will be happy to post such news. But for me it really is not that important as over the last Year i have learnt that i really don't need a touchscreen device any more and am quite happy with out one. Whilst i of course can still appreciate that for others a touchscreen is perceived as essential as is the freedom of choice.

"Hi all
First of all I would like apologize for the long wait but now I finally have the official statement that you guys and gals have waited for, here it goes:
“In response to recent feedback from users and as a result of additional internal testing, Sony Ericsson has determined to offer a further firmware update for the P990 and W950 Walkman® phone. This move illustrates Sony Ericsson’s ongoing commitment to its existing ‘smartphone’ customers and the company’s desire to be responsive to customer feedback in order to provide an optimal user experience.
The next firmware release for the P990 and W950 will be available from the Sony Ericsson Update Service from August 2007.”
This cannot be true. M600i won't get new fw?!? Shame on you SE! The last one fw for m600i was relased on 04.07. but bugs still remain. Pff another bad move SE

I think this is a premature celebration. SE have only promised 1 more firmware update. This does not really show their commitment as such cos we might just get 1 more update and thats it!
I will believe it when i see it!!

What if that update gives us the P1i's software and slightly different interface!

Yeah, right... keep on dreaming. I do not hope for new features as these would need time to mature and debugged. You really want to do more beta testing for SE?

Why not? I've done 9 months and enjoyed it! in fact I'm never going to get another phone!

Then better buy a couple of spare batteries before these run out of stock. The Li-Ion batteries have a limited lifetime.

Kudos to you too Ares, kudos to all of us for our stand. There's a lot of pissed P990 owners out there, they'd better make them happy this time around. I don't mind if it's just one final upgrade so long as it's a good, deserved one. |

ajack reports that the 2 new bugs are fixed in the beta fw he gets from Emma 3 and memory management seems to have been significantly improved. The new test fw was posted about 6 hours after the announcement, so what's going on? I have a theory but I'll wait for a while before voicing it...
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |
