Who said? You don't need unlock for Flashing FTF.

Where did you read that unlock is needed?

My FLASHTOOL says that!
That was the message after connecting my Z.

Flashtool is for unlocked devices (what is actually logical).
It even says so on Sony's site.

@doministry

I think there's some confusion here between flashtool (http://androxyde.github.com) and Sony's own "flash tool".

The prior doesn't need root and is made by some devs over on xda, the latter is Sony's tool for flashing from EMMA.

Use flashtool from http://androxyde.github.com and ftf files from xda and you'll be fine.

^^^ Thanks. I actually would prefer the Sony's way, I don't trust dev sources 100%.
I mean I have no idea how to deal with troubleshooting, bugs etc.

Do you mean troubleshooting bugs in flashtool?

There are plenty of people here who can off good support to you for flashtool and you'll get 10x as much if you look in the right places on xda.

I don't mind helping at all if you need any help. I do it quite often through the various threads here on esato and in PM. I do recommend using flashtool it doesn't take you out of the Sony update schedule, all future updates will come through without complication and it doesn't require unlocking the bootloader or rooting the device.

If you do make sure you get the latest versions from xda, often new handsets will require the newest version to accommodate the recognition of the device.

PM me if you want a detailed instruction set.

Where is this:

"10.Place the unzipped file in the usb_driver folder, located in the Android SDK > extras > google folder on your computer. Accept to replace the old android_winusb.inf-file with the new file. If you can't find the usb_driver folder, please install the Google USB Driver Packager using the Android SDK manager."

That's because of your usage pattern. You use the Z a lot more so the estimated standby time has gone down. Even mine had gone to 12 hours..but after getting back to using the Z moderately, the estimated standby time has again increased.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Sony Xperia Z: When worlds collide->

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsu[....]s_sony_xperia_z-review-915.php

That's a fair comparison

Galaxy S4 is clear winner (Better display, better digital camera, better camcorder, better android version, better cpu, better gpu, better battery, better call quality) !

... but he is right. Even in the summary the Sony has only the better user experience and great build quality over the SIV.

Everything else is in Samsung's favour.

Yes but there is no "fail" there.
Samsung is better, than something else will be etc.
